View Full Version : Why Are 1930 World Cup Collector Medals So Cheap?

I found the below medals in good condition on ebay about a year ago. I think I paid about $35 dollars for each of them. I made the display case myself. These bronze ones continue to pop up on ebay and every now and then if you get lucky you can find a silver, or gold colored one. They are about 1 and 1/8 inches in diameter. Were these really sold at the 1930 World Cup? Were they so mass produced that they are still that cheap and easy to find? I did see someone in Britain and Brazil sell one before, so they aren't coming from the same collector. I sometimes find items simular to these from later World Cups that cost more. Shouldn't things from the 1930 World Cup be worth the most?

It was farther away, so inflation probably has a cause. Also, in Uruguay, things are cheaper, so these were probably cheaper than everywhere else in the world. And the WC wasnt as important as it is today. That's my take

At this point you would think they would be a popular collectors item since the World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world now. Who wouldn't want something from the first World Cup? They do have very rare game day programs that come up on ebay every now and then that go for over $1,000 dollars.
