Maldini offered a role but declined.

Yeah, don't know whether having Maldini in some role here is a good idea or not.

Might have been cool to see him here but really this was just a move to bring more horny chick fans out to the Bridge.

i really thought maldini would bring some insight into our game, he reads the game so well and couldve taught some of our players to do as the same.

hope he joins next season, that is if ancelotti is still around

other than that the new boss takes charge tomorrow, hopefully thatll be the end of what has become a rubbish transfer window

Possible. Sounds like he wants time off more than he doesn't want to come to Chelsea. Makes sense. The guy has been playing top level football for over 20 years.

Follow up on US Setanta:

From the Setanta US website.

"It has been announced today by the Board of Setanta Sport Holdings Limited that it has not proved possible to secure the additional financing required to ensure the future viability of certain Setanta businesses in Great Britain. As a consequence, the Board has taken the decision to seek the appointment of Receivers to the parent company, Setanta Sport Holdings Limited, and certain subsidiaries in Ireland, and Administrators to certain English subsidiaries.

Setanta International is not covered by these appointments.
Setanta’s services in the US will continue to trade normally.

Also, it has been widely reported in various media channels, Setanta Sports has had its agreement to broadcast 46 Barclays Premier League matches in the UK terminated.

This development does not affect our channels and other services in the US.

Setanta Sports in the US is a separate operation that has separate agreement to show the Barclay’s Premier League. Our channels and other services in the US continue to broadcast and our subscribers can still enjoy our programming including the Lions Tour of South Africa and the UEFA U21 European Championship.

New customers are welcome to subscribe to watch some of the world’s best soccer and rugby either by contacting our cable and satellite partners or online at www.setanta.com.

He is.

Keep in mind that English is a difficult language to learn for non English speakers. Did you not feel mentally drained at times when you were in France trying to speak a language that doesn't come naturally?

Yes, I did. Speaking English should be a precondition of being the Chelsea manager. There's no reason anybody at Chelsea should have to speak Italian, save for maybe the manager's primary assistant, who already can. If our staff are having to learn Italian in order to communicate, I don't have high hopes about Ancelotti's communication skills.

Of course I did. And Wilkins speaks Italian, which should be plenty enough respite for him. I'm just worried about the dressing room if the manager can't speak to the players, and the fact that senior officials are learning Italian doesn't exactly raise confidence that he'll be able to do that.

Sometimes having someone who speaks your own language can help when you settle into a new country.

We managed to do well under Grant despite the fact that he wasn't exactly as eloquent in English as Dale Carnegie.
