(Pre/In/Post all together because it's the day before the match and we don't even have a pre-match thread; it seems overkill to have a pre-match thread for 24 hours)

DC United (MLS) v. Ocean City (NJ) Barons (PDL)
USOC 3rd Round
6/30/2009, 7:30pm ET
Maryland Soccerplex, Boyds, MD
NOTES:
The list of players we'll be missing is long, and involves much of our attack: Luciano Emilio, Jaime Moreno, Fred, Santino Quaranta and Dejan Jakovic will all be missing (the first three from injury, the last two for Gold Cup duty).
Folks may remember that historically, the USOC has allowed four substitutions in a match. Not anymore: it's been reduced to three, starting this year.
The Barons posted back-to-back upsets of area USL2 teams Crystal Palace Baltimore and Real Maryland to reach this matchup.
Reports are that the Barons are sending three busloads of fans down from their home in NJ to the Soccerplex for the game.
With five starters unavailable, expect an odd lineup.

Kocic
Namoff--------Janicki-------John
Diraimando---Jacobson---Barklage---McTavish
Khumalo----------NSilu
With Olsen coming in for the second half so he can get back into game fitness and Gomez doing the same. This isn't so odd. They damn well better win and not underestimate the pdl team.

Obviously, we should be way better than Ocean City in terms of talent and organization. What we need to do is be sure to match their motivation and energy. The solution to that goes hand in hand with the fact that we are missing a lot of players; play reserves. Kocic, McTavish, Janicki, Jacobson, DiRaimondo, Barklage, Khumalo, and N'Silu are all players who want to make an impression on the coaching staff and will play hard to impress them. So yes, I expect an obscure lineup. Should be a lot of fun at the plex, will we see a sellout (5,200)?
And I'll give rep to anyone who correctly guesses our lineup :)

Do we even have DiRaimondo? Is he back from his loan?

Ah, the confident 3-4-2 formation. We're going to spot them a player?
No Pontius or Wallace?

It seems to me like *you* are! :)

I'm not really sure, does anyone know his loan situation? It seemed to me like the loan was game by game but I'm likely wrong.

Okay, so maybe I shouldn't take over for Soehn. So, let me add a midfielder, Gomez to the starting lineup.
To the Pontius or Wallace point. Since, both of them have played so much I would hope we could give them just one game off, maybe with Pontius coming in to replace Gomez in the second.
And hopefully Simms can spend some time "resting". And by "resting" I mean thinking back to 2007 when he was very good.

I've only seen about half the players in the last few years, but I'll take a gander at the OC starting line-up and a preview.
4-4-2 (with 2 DM & 2 wide MF)
F: Byron Carmichael, JT Noone
M: Rory McCrea, William Swetra
DM: Ryan Richter, Dan Korenyi
D: Joe Banks, Jimmy Davis, Jamal Neptune, Kevin Curran
GK: Tunde Oginbiyi
As I stated, I haven't seen many of these guys and the ones that I have may have been for just a game or 2 (at most) last year.
The jewel is JT Noone. He potentially could be a 1st round (low 2nd round) next year from Temple. He has a big body and is a shifty dribbler. I'd like to watch a few games, but my initial impression was similar to Pontius (after I saw him 2 years ago).
Richter and Korenyi are big bruising types from LaSalle.
Kyle Miller (from Holy Cross) will probably come off the bench. He had a boat load of goals and I'll be interested to watch him off the bench.
DCU will need to play quickly to get the OC midfield moving to open spots. Pressure the OC midfield on transition to reduce the quick shots behind the DCU defense.
ok, that's all I have got.

I've seen a number of OC Barons matches this year, and this is how I anticipate them lining up:
------------Carmichael------------
Noone---Swetra--McCrae----Richter
--------------Brown--------------
Curran/Melchionni---Davis--Banks--Neptune
-----------Oginbiyi---------------
with potential subs to watch including Kyle Miller (F) and Reddick (Right Mid)
Most impressive things about this team include technical ability of the midfield (very high, fond of the short passing game and then springing forwards or outside mids on through balls), set piece ability (Banks is very good in the air, with good service on set plays), Oginbiyi (excellent shot stopper). Weaknesses will include speed of back line (other than Neptune) and fatigue (accustomed to 6-7 subs per match).
Should be a very interesting match, and I'm hoping the Barons put on a competitive showing.
Any questions about the Barons, let me know and I'll try my best to answer.

I hope you passed this info on to Tommy, since he told Goff that he had no info on Ocean City -- no film, no scouting reports, no nuthin' -- and thus didn't really know how they'd play.

I'll defer to the guy who actually has seen OC play. All I can base this on is what I saw when I saw La Salle play (Barklage played against them - had a goal or an assist), Temple and Lehigh...
Hopefully, its hot. Wear them down. An early DCU goal may discourage them.

Here's a small amount of video highlight's from Ocean City's win over Rhode Island Stingrays this weekend, courtesy of a South Jersey news program. The soccer is about midway thru the 4-minute news clip after the baseball highlights. They mention tonight's game as biggest in franchise history and will be sending their sports folks to cover it. They also claim to be offering streaming video of the match from their channel's website:
