Upset that Aguirre did not call him for the Gold Cup. I know we have depth there but the Mexican Federation are stupid for at least not cup tying him. Someone is this stupid federation needs to look at the future of Mexico and plan accordingly. Are you telling me that he is not better than Valenzuela at least? Does America hold that much say in the National team where one of there players under performs for them and then talks sh1t gets banned from the national team.

As a USA fan, I love this because we have zero depth at LB. It's by far our weakest position.
Bocanegra is a good defender but he's not good moving forward.
Jonnathan Bornstein, a Mexican-American whose mother was born and raised in Mexico, is inconsistent and shakey. He could improve but his ceiling is not nearly as high as Castillo's.
Mexico has plenty of better options at LB and this won't hurt them at all. But this is huge for the United States if Castillo can shake of his poor form from the past year.

I've said this before.
If he is going to pull a Francisco Torres and change sides because he doesn't want to work for his spot...then Castillo this is for you...

He was plotting from day one!

The rule change happened after the game at Honduras.
There was no way of knowing Fifa would change the rule
He can't leave the country because of legal problems.
Thats why he didn't join Tigres for the Superliga. They said it was the passport problem again. Who the f'k are they fooling.

Like I said in another thread.
We would be calling him a mercenario under the reverse situation.
If he just came here to find a spot, be it on a National team or in SA, then he is a mercenario. The same goes for him leaving for the USMNT for those same reasons.
If he is leaving because he is afraid he is not good enough for Mexico's starting XI, then we haven't lost much, just some unpatriotic quitter who does not have enough fight in him.
If he does want to play here, then someone should work with him and make him fight for it.

Castillo can go to hell. If he doesn't want to WORK for that jersey on his back than fuc him. That's exactly the attitude Aguirre is trying to change.

Agreed. As much as I like Bornstein for his club team, you are right about his sometimes underwhelming performances.
About Castillo, yeah I'd prefer if he played for Mexico but it's his life whatever he wants, as long as he doesn't celebrate Rossi style if he scores against Mexico. If he stayed he could have put pressure on Salcido if he continues to play mediocre, but alas - meh.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the USMNT was his first choice and he only went to Mexico after the USA failed to call him up at the youth level.
Seems to me that Edgar is just taking advantage of the rules change to go back to his first choice all along.

Even more frustrating for United States soccer officials, Castillo said he would have liked to have played for the United States but never attracted much interest until Mexico reached out to him first.
It would have been nice — to be from the U.S. and play for the U.S.,” Castillo said in an interview last week when he was in the Los Angeles area with Santos for the SuperLiga tournament. “I was wondering what the U.S. was thinking, why they were not calling me.”
As an attacking LB, Castillo's competition on the US team would be Jonnathan Bornstein, Heath Pearce, and converted LW Beasley. Carlos Bocanegra is way more defensive at LB and mostly plays CB.
Anthony Wallace, currently with the USA U20 team, could be our LB of the future but he is very young and a 2014 project.
He has Pearce and Beasley beat easily. It remains to be seen if Bob Bradley would rate Castillo higher than Bornstein. Bradley has always liked Bornstein and that goes back to his days of coaching Chivas USA. I think Castillo when playing his best is significantly better than Bornstein, but Castillo has not been at his best this past season.
Either way, if Castillo is looking for his best chance to make the World Cup, I think it's with the USA.
Just a question, does a public statement like this pretty much screw himself over with Mexico and their fans if he never files his application with FIFA to switch national affiliations? How much press is this likely to get in Mexico?

Correct me if I'm wrong didn't Edgar also say that he would never ever play for the USMNT?
As far as any future with the U.S., Castillo said that would never happen. "Even if they call, I'm not going to come," he said. "I already told them that I'm staying with Mexico." (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/luis_bueno/10/10/castillo.mexico/)
I guess I was right.

I don't know about choice... he said he would have played for the Nads if they called him, thats much different than saying I want to play for the Nads and no one else.
Either way, if Castillo is looking for his best chance to make the World Cup, I think it's with the USA.
No offesnesse but if this guy was smart he would stay away from the US and their false promises. Look at what happened to Fransisco Javier Torres. He thought he was the shit, went to the Confed Cup and played zero minutes. He has likely lost his spot in the US NT to incoming German Merc. I bet he wishes he had a chance to switch about now.
Just a question, does a public statement like this pretty much screw himself over with Mexico and their fans if he never files his application with FIFA to switch national affiliations? How much press is this likely to get in Mexico?
This is true, he hasn't officially swithched nor has he declared his intentions... he simply said that he would listen to the US if they called. I think he comes off looking like a coward for not wanting to fight for his spot. What do you think he wants to talk to the Nads about? He wants assurances that his spot will be secure.
