I've been digitizing my vinyl collection, and I put "Off The Wall" into .wav format yesterday. Gotta say that Rod Temperton wrote some fine ditties.
My favorite Jacksonian song is "I'll Be There", which is a Motown joint, by Gordy et al. I love the harmonic suspensions in the chorus.
"Rock Witchu" is another favorite. He does all the vocals. Again...excellent harmonies.
I guess you can tell I like the music more than the beat, but as far as up-tempo numbers go, nothing can hold a candle to "Beat It", for this kid.
Here's a treat for ya:

The Girl is Mine
this is the only Michael Jackson song i akshuly despise.
i think it's because Jackson and McCartney as a writing duo doesn't work for me that well. the song is "sappy", a term i've stolen from a Salon critic.
the song is the polar opposite to "Beat It",

Oh, come on. Ebony and Ivory with Paul and Stevie wasn't that bad. I could see McCartney and Jackson doing something similar and it would also have worked very well.
But yeah, I agree about 'The girl is mine' That was so wrong. Although it does have some comedic value. 'Michael we're not going to fight about this', 'Paul I think I told you I'm a lover not a fighter' 'She told me I'm her forever lover don't you remember?' 'Well after loving me she said she couldn't love another' 'I don't believe it' LOL!
The one I like, overplayed and all, is 'Billy Jean'.
