What movies are you looking forward to seeing this summer? I think we should define summer as anything that comes out any time in the May-August timer period.

1) Spiderman 2: The trailer for this is just stunning. I know that is not hte best thing to judge a movie on, but damn it looked good.

2) Troy: It will probably be the biggest movie of hte summer. Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Peter O'Toole, Sean Bean, Brian Cox, and Orlando Bloom (if you are into that sort of thing).

3) Harry Potter 3: Based on my favorite of the books, so my expectations are probably the highest. Gary Oldman as Sirius Black seems to be an inspired choice. Also the new director Alfonso Curon really has me really interested.

4) Dodgeball: Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, in just a screwy comedy that will probably provide us with this year's Zoolander.

5) King Arthur: It looks like it could be a nice turn you brain off movie. And it has Kiera Knightly in it.

6) Anchorman: Will Ferrell as an anchroman in the 1970s. This should be great.

7) The Village: M. Night Shyamalan's newest film. Do you really need another reason?

Really looking forward to these three myself. #1 on my list would be Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It's my favorite book as well and the trailer for the movies is incredible IMO.

Garden State As expected per my bloated raving about the trailer. I've read some good early reviews of hte film, as well.
The Village. This strikes me from afar as having the potential of being Shyamalan's best. It's an interesting idea at worst.
As far as the blockbusters, I think Troy has potential. Although it's going to take some serious chopping down of the legend to fit it into a normal screen time. The stills of the King Arthur film that I've seen have a great, gritty look.
There's an Andre Dubus II short story adaptation. Can'tthink of the name. I know it has Mark Ruffalo and Naomi Watts.
Waiting on David Gordon Green's The Undertow and A Confederacy of Dunces, but I don't think either is down for this summer.

Isn't anyone going to see "Shaolin Soccer"? I know it was released about 2 weeks ago in the US. Heard it was the highest grossing movie in Hong Kong.... It hasnt turned up around here....guess I'll have to wait 6 months to see it on DVD!!!

Troy could be good, but I am dying to see what happens in the Bourne Supremacy as I have never read (or even heard of) the books. I only heard it was an adaptation weeks afer seeing the The Bourne Identity.

As far as I know, the books and movies really aren't that similar. The first movie was pretty good and I bet the second one will be, but you can never really tell with sequels.

I have heard so much from the director/producers about how "this isn't your fairy tale Camelot...blah, blah, blah", and then I saw a still of Keira Knightley in a midriff-baring outfit with some sort of bizarre scribblings on her, holding a bow.

I also can't wait to see Super Size Me.

My understanding is that Brad Pitt plays Achilles in Troy. I am already sick of hearing him give speeches and I only saw that portion in the previews. I am sure that it is his idea as well to pull the whole horse trick.

Here are some of those pics: http://www.empiremovies.com/gallery/king_arthur/king_arthur_pictures_07.shtml

Maybe they are drawing inspiration from the story of Queen Boadicea in making Knightley into an action hero. But what are you looking for? Its a summer mive, its not suppose to make sense.

I did. It's good, but it's no "God of Cookery".

That's trrue. I hadn't thought about the Bruckheimer thing .... Are you saying that in an era before the middle ages' big thaw that a midriff-baring native outfit wouldn't be something worn in the near-arctic climate of England?

I think its suppose to be a Celtic thing, but they fought naked (well some of them did).

Always something to be concerned about. You never know what he'll crank out.

You say that like it's a bad thing!

TimeOut NY has a feature on summer movies.
TONY Top 10:
1. Control Room (5/21)
2. Napoleon Dynamite (6/11)
3. Before Sunset (7/2)
4. Maria Full of Grace (7/16)
5. Open Water (8/6)
6. Garden State (7/30)
7. Spider-Man 2 (6/30)
8. Hero (8/20)
9 Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (7/9)
10. The Five Obstructions (5/26)

Of the above, I'm probably going to see Control Room (documentary on Al-Jazeera), Garden State (Zach Braff & Natalie Portman), Spider-Man 2 and Hero (Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi). I'm also curious about Saved - the trailer looks hilarious. And I can't say enough about Super Size Me. Absolutely hilarious and horrifying.

TONY also lists Baadasssss!, The Day After Tomorrow,Zatoichi, Harry Potter and the Growing Brestices, The Terminal, Anchorman, The Manchurian Candidate, The Village, and Code 46.
