Who would you say is the worst player to have played in the Premier League?

I’m not going to include players who only made one or two games before being found out (so no Istevan Kozma or Antunes or Dia), but those who despite being useless, actually managed to sustain a career in the top flight.

Also, these players had to be crap throughout their career; they cannot have been successful elsewhere only to flop at a certain club (no Jon-Dahl Tommasson, Jean-Alain Boumsong or Stephane Guivarc’h then), as many players have been good elsewhere only to fail to adapt to England or playing in a better standard of League

I've come up with some names, add your own to it.

25) Andy Dibble (Manchester City and Middlesborough
24) Stewart Nethercott (Spurs)
23) Jimmy Carter (Arsenal)
22) Danny Cadamarteri (Everton)
21) Stewart Castledine (Wimbledon
20) Mikkel Beck (Middlesborough
19) Julian Watts (Leicester, Sheffield Wednesday):
18) Peter Fear (Wimbledon)
17) Ashley Ward (many teams!)
16) David Kerslake (Spurs)
15) Michele Padovano (Crystal Palace)
14) Jason Lee (Nottingham Forest
13) Bjorn Tore Kvarme (Liverpool)
12) Ysrael Zuniga (Coventry City)
11) Ade Akinbiyi (Leicester and Crystal Palace)
10) Igors Stepanovs (Arsenal)
9) Brett Angell (Everton)
8) Carl Leaburn (Wimbledon)
7) Andrea Silenzi (Nottinhgam Forest)
6) Torben Piechnik (Liverpool)
5) Eric Djemba-Djemba (Man Utd and Villa)
4) Ian Ormondroyd (Leicester)
3) Lee Dong Gook (Middlesborough)
2) Junior Lewis (Leicester):
1) Gareth Farrelly (Everton)

- Jody Morris. He was just a crap Dennis Wise.

- Peter Ramage. You will never see a worse player than this. Literally awful at every single aspect of football. I always say that I can do a better job than a lot of players. This guy is the only one whom I would actually be better than.

Djemba had success in France, didn't he?

Salif Diao (Liverpool & Stoke)
David May (Manchester United & Blackburn)
Iain Ormondroyd (Leicester and Villa)

EDIT: Ok, you got Ormondroyd. Showing my age with the Villa memory too.

I think you're being harsh on Danny Cadamarteri, myself. I thougt he was a decent player,. Shame he never lived up to his immense promise........

Some of the names on thismlist take me back. Ysrael Zuniga, Carl Leaburn, Ashley Ward!!!!

Without question the worst moment of my football supporting life was when Ashley Ward scored the winner for Barnsley at Anfield. This was coupled with the fact he had been in hospital with Meningitis the week before and he still scored the winner! I still feel pain over that to this day!

Neil Shipperley was another version of Ashley Ward and nearly as bad!

I remember reading in '90minutes' magazine as a kid about Carl Leaburn and they were asking fans to sum him up in 3 words or less. The only printable reply they got was "gangly oaf"!

Titus Bramble - had some seriously shocking moments for a "top" footballer.

Jean-Alain Boumsong - consistently poor for Newcastle, truly was a shite player.

José Kléberson - made 30 appearances in 2 seasons for Manchester United, having been signed after Scolari insisted he was the "driving force" behind Brazil's World Cup success, and was utter shite.

Eric Daniel Djemba-Djemba - had enormous shoes to fill after being brought in to replace Old Trafford legend Roy Keane, but never lived up to the hype or expectations after being playing ineffectively in a squad rotation system before being sold to Aston Villa who, after bringing him on for only one game as a late substitute, realised their mistake and loaned him out to Burnley.

Winston Bogarde - a transfer organised entirely by Kevin Bates and Colin Hutchinson with the then Chelsea FC manager Vialli having no idea of the signing, and within weeks of having signed his first contract with the club he was shown the door by the new manager Ranieri, though he refused to leave because he knew he wouldn't make 40,000 quid a week anywhere else, and in turn was frequently demoted to the Chelsea reserves/youth squads and clung on for 4 years until his contract expired, with Chelsea trying to offload him whenever they could during that period. This quote from him basically says it all, really; ''This world is about money, so when you are offered those millions you take them. Few people will ever earn so many. I am one of the few fortunates who do. I may be one of the worst buys in the history of the Premiership, but I don't care.''

I'm sure I could think of many more too.

Claudio Cacapa, Brazilian born Newcastle player, youd have thought it were American Samoa. Absolutely shocking, just to see him on the pitch made me realise that my mum too could be included in there roster.

Absolute worst ever was probably Ali Dia, who played about 20 minutes for Southampton after fradulently claiming to be both a Senegalese international and the cousin of George Weah when he was infact a semi-pro player and not a very good one at that.

Worst player recently? I'd probably have to say Eddie Johnson, okay it wasn't Johnson at his best, but he looked completely out of his depth in the 6 games he played for them.

In terms of someone who actually played more than a handful of games, probably Jean-Alain Boumsong who actually played 47 games for Newcastle.

Was going to say Dia, no doubt that he's easily the worst, although technically he was never a player, just a random bloke.

Brolin was suposedly pretty shocking while at Leeds although I was still too young to remember his time there.
Had the pleasure of seeing Balaban play in the flesh a few times at Villa and have to say he was absolutely terrible while there.

Ousmane Dabo's got to be in the list somewhere...

Apart from getting the s**t kicked out of him by Barton he did nothing.

Match after match he just stood in the centre circle and watching the game go by him. I thought it might have been the language barrier and was going to send him a pictorial guide on how to Tackle or Pass to your teamates.

I reckon he must have had some blackmail info on Stuart Pierce, no other explanation makes sense.

Wikipedia says he came on in the 32nd minute and was subbed in the 53rd.

He'd failed a trial at Rotherham the week before he signed!

What about Phil Stamp of Middlesborough? I can remember him having a shot that went behind him! He somehow wrapped his foot completely around the ball

I was about to suggest Ralph Milne, signed by Alex Ferguson for Man Utd for reasons that were a mystery to everyone who saw him play, including fans of 3rd division Bristol City, who sold him, but realised he missed the cut by a couple of years.

Instead I'll suggest Jason Roberts. I can't believe he's had a premier league career. I remember him playing in the lower divisions for Bristol Rovers, and he was just the classic lumbering lower-division carthorse.

His "impressive" goal tally, spanning six seasons in the premier league, reads 146 games and 26 goals

I think he does well when he comes on occasionally for Blackburn. Although, there is a reason he doesn't play much I suppose.

Living nearby, I caught a few matches at Craven Cottage towards the end of 07/08. The worst player on the pitch both times was the American striker Eddie Johnson. A worse striker is truly inconceivable; he has no footballing ability whatsoever from what I saw. He is my nomination for second worst (nobody beats Ramage though).

Does any body else remember Ade Akinbiyi's crap performances for Leicester circa 2000? I remember the nasty TV companies showing his 'highlights' of a particularly awful performance against Liverpool I believe. It basically consisted of him thrashing the ball as hard as he could 'goalwards' everytime he got the ball.
