Ugly game, nice goal, we deserved to lose.

Things to note about this game:

Isn't this suppose to be Convey's midfield? Etcheverry is no longer with DC united and everybody was saying how much Convey was suppose to run the midfield. Another thing, somebody tell Stewart not to take anymore free kicks and cornor kicks. He's horrible at that. Also why did Novak wait until the 66 min to bring adu in...Adu should of started second half.

poor game.

I hope you all dont take this as trolling, because it's not meant to be. But I was wondering what you think of the last two subs made by Nowak. I mean I dont understand who you could take off Stewart and Moreno, two proven veteran players, and sub in two rookies. I think that really hurt your sides chances of scoring a goal.

I think Stewart picked a bit of a knock. Not sure about Moreno, maybe he was gassed.

DC had great midfield possession in the first half but absolutely no finishing touch. DC is also terrible on set pieces. I dont understand why Adu doesnt take free kicks when he is in the game.

I'm not buying that excuse for poor coaching. Alecko, Stewart, and Moreno had chances all game long. They may be proven but they werent proving it in this game.

'Cause he can't see over the wall.

that was very frustrating to watch. we had a number of good chances (Esky had a great one at the beginning of the 2nd half, off a nice pass from Convey), but we either shot it right at their goalie or he made a nice save.

i thought, at about the 60th minute or so, that some of our midfielders looked like they were huffing and puffing a bit. we continue to use 2 of our 3 subs at the forward spot. i don't agree with those tactics, but whatever, i didn't think anyone played particularly well today.

Wynalda really ribbed Olsen about his defensive lapse that gave up the goal.

As I predicted in my pre-match post, lack of converting our early chances and the now inevitable lapse in concentration on defense has been this team's undoing! It should have been 3-0 at the half but we just can't seem to finish. We owned Chicago this game, as we did the other three teams however, give any team enough time and they will score. We are a young team though and by the end of the season DC United will be a force! My MOTM was Ryan Nelson. I think Nowak should either start Adu next match and sub him for a more proven goal scorer like Cerritos or sub him for Moreno and keep the energy of Alecko on the field. Alecko will open up space for young Adu and keep the other team's defenders more honest. This match came down to lack of converting and another great individual play by a proven forward(ala the diving Fish, ala Taylor, and now ala Damani "where's my comb" Ralph).

Convey ran the midfield very well and all in all played a perfect game for a central midfielder. He transitioned from defense to offense, he created dangerous cahnces for his teamates, and he offered himself as an outlet all over the field and was a demon defensivly. Unfortunatly DC United needed him as an attacking midfielder. This isn't Bobby's normal game as he never went on any of his normal off-ball runs into the midfield and DC United clearly missed it. I don't know if it was the Coaches decision or whether it was Convey simply not taking chances but a mistake was made there.

Also, Freddy did no show well. Couldn't hold possesion, reckless when he lost the ball, first touch was a bit off...but the way he latched onto that long ball from Nelson was a thing of Beuty. I think its gotten to the point where he either has to start or simply not play at all.

I woulda subbed for Olsen immediately after his "ole'" defense, just to make a point to the club.

A really poor performance. Convey had a couple of sweet passes, but nobody could finish.

So much for making RFK a fortress. Talk is cheap Piotr, your team actually has to finish out the game in order to win at home.

This game is a glaring example of why we absolutley NEED a tall, strong, PURE GOAL SCORER. Scoring by comittee isn't working now, and it won't work in August. When Peter was asked about who would score the goals, he shrugged it off by esentially saying it would work itself out. Look, for the past 4 YEARS we've had trouble scoring goals. It isn't a slump that'll pass with time, it's an honest to God plague on this club and it needs to be remedied. We lost three points, because Chicago has one, and we don't. Simple as that.

DC need to work on their finishing, they play OK today. In order to win they have to put the ball in the back of the net.

Freddy had a few very slick passes that shouldnt be overlooked. The switch to a wide open Convey who should have done better than skying the ball 20 rows back. Also, it was Adu's possession that led to freeing Dema for the 1 v 1 on Ring.

Shut up Wynalda,

I thought Convey was the best player on the pitch today for both teams.

Freddy should be given a chance to start it seems the more he gets into the flow of the game the more he succeeds. He makes smart quick decesions and should be given a shot to start.

Jaimie Moreno seems to fade out in games I do not think he will be able to physicaly hold up for a whole season, though i hope he will so we can get the pick you will owe us. Those disc problems never fully heal. Maybee as a late game sub is where he can be effective.

Sorry, I seem to have tapped into the prophetic mode.

TIME TO BREAK OUT THE STOPWATCHES, CURFEWS, MILITANT TRAINERS...

For a change, Wynalda actually spot on with 2 comments. 1st- No sense of urgency in the closing minutes of the game for United. We were outgassed at home, by a team with a more relentless schedule, missing no less than 4 starting players. 2nd- We continue to be predictable and easily second-guessed with respect to subs.
To get beat 1-nil at home stinks. The Adu show should be over, and boot camp should be re-instated across the board. Domani running thru 4-5 defenders like he's all world should be played incessantly if players have any questions as to why they need to step up conditioning-wise.

Game wasn't without it's good points- Nick looked to improve between the posts- Convey showed us better crosses in the first half- something's gotta be done to reduce his frustration level in games ASAP. Freddy continued to show us in flashes he's got some game- just don't see it being enough to warrant subbing him in a match where we're down- is this a concession being made by Nowak? Earnie was great before and even after the knock from Ring. We almost went a whole half without Beasley's name being mentioned. Kudos to Nelly for improved organization overall defensively, but especially for the sweet cross onto Freddy's left foot near the end of the game- too bad Freddy wasn't ready for a one-timer, else maybe we get the point. Too bad once again we fail to use a defensive sub- either for backline, or a d-mid. Not that anyone had a horrendous game, in fact, think the only extreme gaff was Olsen's in not covering Ralph on the breakaway. But in a close game, at home, I'd rather have the legs at the back later in games than at the front.

Think coach had better start wondering what if we played a game where the 1st and 2nd halves were switched performance-wise, how would our results differ? We seem to playing out of our heads, only to drain the tank in time for the opposition to move in for the kill. Thus far, I'd like to see us sub more reactionary than pre-emptive, meaning, don't unload your barrell before your opponent's had a chance to fire. I'm sure Gros can appreciate not tipping off your machine gunner's position in engaging the enemy, maybe he could help bring this point home.

And yes, I again cringed at seeing our experience level drop-off post substitions with us trying to come from behind to earn a point. Let's hope next week we learn from some past results. Are we considering this a re-building year, after seeing our matches vs San Jose, 1st half performances vs LA and NY? That would explain continually putting match results in rookies hands vs benched veterans.

smartest post i have seen on this thread yet. freddy is simply not worth the money or the hype. dc needs to learn not to rely on freddy for goals, and they have the talent to do so.freddy looked confused and/or lazy out there. this is niot u-20. he has to work... the team is not going to give him a spot-on pass every time, and he is not going to have a clear and open shot on goal given to him every time.

Maybee he said that because he did not really know who was gonna score the goals.
