I just heard Hanson's new album. Nobody here can convince me that they have not made 3 decent albums of just good pop. I mean seriously is a band like Semisonic or any other radio friendly pop band that much better.

LoL... whatever, they can make all the music they want... i'm still bitter because I was twelve and like "man that chick on Hanson is hot."
You bastards know what I'm talking about.

The new Hanson record is great pop. And it's way better than the last Semisonic disc.

Thank you. I truly think that its a very, very good record. Its a shame that it won't get a fair shake from people.

I know our respective countries are seperated by many things, language being one of them - but is this a joke thread?
I admit I lost track of Hanson after Mmmm bop and the couple of follow-ups they had, but would never have thought they'd ever have deserved their own thread on BS.

Actually this is where you gain a ton of cred, in my view. I liked Hanson in the MBop days. My friend and I were music snobs at the time, but we both thought really good things about them. Their arrangements had a classic 70s pop song feel -- happy-go-lucky while not pandering in the way of a Boy Band. We always thought they sounded like the best of the Jackson Five. If you put MBop up against any of the crap of recent vintage that involves any former Mouseketeer, it is so much better So whenever someone hatches a "guilty pleasure" thread around here, I almost always say Hanson.

Peter Griffin: If you could be stranded on a desert island with any woman in the world, who would it be?
Glen Quagmire: Taylor Hanson.
Joe Swanson: Taylor Hanson is a guy.
Glen Quagmire: [Laughs] You guys are yankin' me. "Hey, let's put one over on Quagmire."
Peter Griffin: No, he's actually a guy, Quagmire.
Glen Quagmire: What? That's insane. That's impossible.
[Pause]
Glen Quagmire: Oh god. Oh my god. I've got all these magazines. Oh god.

At least you're not on here hyping John Mayer like some other people around here do...

My initial reaction to Hanson was "Who is that cute chick on the keyboards?" Then, their first few singles were just great pop. There aren't too many pop records better than Mmmbop.
I think they made two mistakes though - they went after the teeny bopper audience too hard (albeit, they liked Hanson's music the most) and they tried to grow up with the audience. Haven't heard their new stuff but I'm interested in hearing about it.

Both Semisonic AND Hanson suck, how you like THEM apples?
There's so much better "Pop" right now that 100 times better. The Neptunes for instance blow these girls(guys) away. Even Beyonce's stuff is way better. What about that Usher and bands like White Stripes. You think Hanson holds a cnadle to any of them. Even if they do its not saying much.

The Neptunes haven't been that good the past couple of years (the new N.E.R.D. album notwithstanding), and neither Beyonce, Usher nor White Stripes are "pure" pop the way Hanson is.

My prediction is that the new hipster "ironic" movement will be to like Hanson. Not saying that's why you're doing it, Hang, but I'm sure I'll be seeing the white belted, black haired Mission hipsters playing it on the dive bar jukeboxes.

I have to admit I'm incredibly skeptical about Hanson, but I also have to say, having met hangthadj and discussed music, soccer and life with him over beers that this man has pretty incredible taste in music and likes a wide variety of stuff (much wider than most folks) and judges things based on merit and not hype. Very interesting hang. I'm stunned, but I find it intersting.

If you have not done 1 of 2 things then you have no business posting in this thread.
1) Listened to the new Hanson album
2) Seen them live lately
It's a wonderful pop record, these kid's are really turning into great great artists.
It's a shame they've been typecast in the "MMMbop" role by so many people, and that many of those will never take the time to listen to any of their stuff again.

I have more respect for the Hansons than any of the Girl/Boy, Boy/Boy/, Man/Boy, groups
