I don't think us winning the title has anything to do with ManU's results. Chelsea are the only side that can catch us. If they get no points from their game this weekend, and we win, then the title is ours. If they get points and so do we, then we can win it outright next Sat. Also, there should be an [R] in this title thread.

sorry i am new to this board whats this [R] u talk about? I am migrating from another board that shall remain nameless(pretty bloody obvious which one). this most probably explains the influx of new members.
My post is just saying man u have mathematically relinquished the title das all :)

Welcome to BigSoccer! The [R] in the title thread tells people that we are talking about a final. In case they havent/dont want to see the final score because they are seeing the match later or something, the [R] lets them know.

Arsenal could clinch the Premiership title on Sunday, but only if other results go in their favour.
With Manchester United playing Liverpool on Saturday and Chelsea at Newcastle on Sunday, there are a number of permutations. Read on for all the possible outcomes and how they would affect Arsenal.
IF CHELSEA WIN...
Arsenal cannot become Champions against Tottenham on Sunday.
IF CHELSEA DRAW AND MANCHESTER UNITED WIN...
Arsenal must beat Tottenham to become Champions.
IF CHELSEA DRAW AND MANCHESTER UNITED DRAW...
Arsenal must beat Tottenham to become Champions.
IF CHELSEA DRAW AND MANCHESTER UNITED LOSE...
Arsenal must beat Tottenham to become Champions.
IF CHELSEA LOSE AND MANCHESTER UNITED WIN...
Arsenal must beat Tottenham to become Champions.
IF CHELSEA LOSE AND MANCHESTER UNITED DRAW...
Arsenal must avoid defeat at Tottenham to become Champions.
IF CHELSEA LOSE AND MANCHESTER UNITED LOSE...
Arsenal must avoid defeat at Tottenham to become Champions.

Another way to look at it:
Chelsea have four fixtures remaining and a possible 12 points. They're on 72 and could get to 84 in their best case scenario. Their goal differential is +33.
Arsenal have five fixtures remaining and a possible 15 points. We're on 81 points, and our goal differential is +45.
If Chelsea win out (and hit 84), 85 points is our magic number. No matter what happens, when we get to that number, it's over.
If Chelsea draw, the best they could do is 82, which means a victory by Arsenal clinches (as we would be at 84 points).
[Although extremely unlikely, if we end up tied on points it goes to goal differential, which means Chelsea would also have to score more than 12 goals better than Arsenal over the remaining games. Not going to happen.]
So as SLO Gunner pointed out, a win by Arsenal and draw by Chelsea gives us the title.
