It just seems that the local Movie theaters just show mostly mainstream shoot out movies...well in my town anyway. It would be nice if they could take just one of their screens more often and show some other stuff. Maybe it's different in other towns/cities but it's kind of tiring seeing some guy trying to solve everything with a gun all the time. I guess that's where the money is!

There is DVD of course but it's nice to see a movie you like on the big screen. That's my gripe for today!

Movies have been like that forever...think back to old westerns or gangster movies or cops-n-robber or whatever...

Like Dolemite said, your biggest problem is that you live in Daytona Beach, where likely all you get is Hollywood multiplex crap. Subscribe to Film Movement (http://www.filmmovement.com/) or some other mail-order service that carries a decent stock of indie DVDs.

Here's what's playing at the 6-screen indie-lite theater down the street from where I live: Eternal Sunshine, Osama, Bon Voyage, Spring Summer Fall Winter and Spring, Dogville and I'm Not Scared. Not a NRA informercial in the bunch.

Move and you'll be happier.

Which theater is more indie?

The biggest issue with this theater is that they insist on using lower-wattage bulbs in the projector. It infuriates me, even though most probably don't notice. Seeing Lost In Translation without the vibrance of some of the shots was insulting. Interestingly, the larger chain theaters around here are better about this than the indie places, though they still cut this corner from time to time.

According to Roger Ebert, this is a problem in the South. I can't speak to that, but I can't understand why a supposed "movie lover's" theater would do this. It's Landmark, so maybe I can write to Mark Cuban and have him crack some skulls.

And yes, I'm the guy who gets up in the first five minutes of the movie to tell someone who works at the theater that the film is out of focus.

Bless your soul. I don't make it out to the movies very much any more, but projection quality matters, dammit.

Which theater is more indie?Belleville, US of Leland and Good-Bye, Lenin! (great movie, by the way) have come and gone for us, though I think that Monster is still playing down the street. I'd say it's a push. According to Roger Ebert, this is a problem in the South. I can't speak to that, but I can't understand why a supposed "movie lover's" theater would do this. The Landmark theater in New York, Sunshine Cinema (http://www.landmarktheaters.com/Market/NewYork/NewYork_frameset.htm), is pretty much the greatest first-run theater in the city. Must be a southern thing.

Hmmm, i wonder what kind of bulbs the theatre in oxford uses... yes, I also get up and tell the manager to kick his projecter guy in the ass if the movie I am watching is out of focus.
