So, who's better? Man U and Arsenal fans should probably refrain from voting, just because we know what they'll say. But I wasn't watching much Premiership 5 years ago and I've missed Giggsie's best years. How good was he?

TIA

Val

has giggs ever won Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award?

Pires is amazing right now, one of the best left wingers in the world. The fact that he is one of the best, however, is a reason why Giggs was better back then; lightning quick, extremely skilled, tracked back, and had some moments of surreal magic (see: FA Cup Semi Final goal vs. Arsenal).

Are you seriously that thick or what?

Giggs is not known for being a diving tw@t, so that should edge it for him right there.

I apologize, Pires' reputation for going down easy is totally undeserved.

I agree, Giggs was magic. Much better than Pires, most of Pires goals are tap ins and he feeds off the other players, Giggs turns it on by himself.

what crap, if some statto can help out here I'm sure you will see that Pires makes and scores far more than Giggs, Giggs is a crap finisher and a crap crosser, all he's good for is beating a defender.

Wow. You really come off looking stupid when you make a post like this. Pires feeds off the other players and scores tap ins?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Have you ever even seen him play? If you don't know what you're talking about, don't post.

Its impossible to compare these two in my mind because they have been utilised in their 'hey-day' for different ways.

Giggs like Figo is an out-an-out winger who takes on players, crosses etc. Bobby is more of an attacking midfielder, playmaker time more akin to Nedved who just finds himself in the left wing position.

I must say though when Giggs was at his prime he was as fast as Thierry and was by far the best winger in the world fullstop. (That goal at home to Juventus ages ago was awesome)

That said what I think Bobby brings to Arsenal's team (and they do with it) is more so than Ryan Giggs probably brought to Man U when he was so good (1999).

Not much chance your post will be recognized over the din of "diver this and choker that" but I think you make an excellent point. Although they both ostensibly play left wing, Giggs and Pires really play very different roles for their respective teams, therefore, a direct comparison is difficult. Both are certainly world class players.

I wouldn't dispute that they are both great at what they do, and how they do what's asked of them for the team. You run into much of the same arguments when the (rarely discussed  ) comparisons of Ruud vs. Henry are brought up.

Exactly what I was thinking...

It's like a couple of billionaires arguing over who has the bigger pool... does anyone else really care? ;)
