I saw on the FIFA preiew for tomorrow's game that Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda is tomorrow's ref against Spain. For those who pay attention to such things you'll remember this:

Is this good or bad for the U.S. Larrionda owes us one for Eddie Pope's red card. But, he probably won't see it that way.

But then Larronda would have us down to 9!
Hey, why not start with 8? Then when we get Larrondacized we go down to 7, which I believe require FIFA to throw out the results of the match? :p

I bet we get a red card in the first half. Hopefully Beasley gets sent off in the tunnel, before the game starts, that way we can start with 11 and guarantee he does not touch the field.

i really hope the Confederations Cup becomes ground zero for our dumas$ players to stop thinking they can get away with MLS-type shit on this type of a stage. if that is the only lesson we take from the CC, (provided we apply it to S.A. 2010) this CC will not have been wasted.
But as for Larrionda, I will be shocked if we finish the game with no red cards. I'm not even saying that to be flip, I honestly will be shocked.

I guess this is an appropriate thread to note that all players start afresh, yellow cards from the Group Stages do not carry over to the semifinals.
Thus Onyewu, Bradley, Spector and Bornstein are safe for the final/3rd place game as long as the don't get a red.

Which Larrionda inevitably disperses to one of them.

Okay, somebody tell us this is a mistake. Post a link to the story that explains that Larrionda was slated to ref our game, but there was some kind of error, and it's not really happening. Please do it soon.
Please?

Because the Scotsman Hugh Dallas cannot referee European Champion Spain's next game, he'll have the final if we advance and the third-place game if we lose to Spain. ;)

Now I start to think about the thread posted after USA-Egypt suggesting FIFA had fixed the group results in our favor.
Genius, pure genius.

I have seen him ref many games when i lived in Montevideo, he is a good ref. He is certainly better than Pablo Pozo.

OK. The guy screwed us once, no question but does anyone know if this is a regular problem for him, or did he just have a bad day that day?

Anyone else notice this? Them's fightin words...
We came up against Spain before EURO 2008 and we played a great game. We've been watching them during this tournament and we've been taking note of their style. We know how to stop them and we are very confident.

I don't see why the past would really affect his performance tonight. Pope second yellow was definitely that and as a vet he should have known better. The first yellow was b.s., but everyone makes mistakes and that Larrionda made one that cost us doesn't automatically make him a bad or unfair ref.

Three words then: We are F***ed
I agree with other posters, we might as well start the game with 9 men, in a 4-3-1 formation.

You didn't watch USA-Italy in '06, did you?
That wasn't all Larrionda was guilty of.

Surely you aren't alluding to Pablo's red. If so, sorry, it was definitely a fed.
