This will be greeted by shock and dismay throughout Washington. Until Joe Gibbs saunters to the podium, and after laughing that nutty new laugh of his -- that seems to come out of nowhere, like Gibbs is just now, in 2004, reacting to a joke George Carlin told in 1981 -- Gibbs pronounces Adu "exactly what the Redskins need. You won't have to wait until the 61st minute to see Freddy in burgundy and gold."
:D
Freddy references in an NFL Draft column? Soccer has made it. ;)

That's exactly how I read it. A typical Kornheiser sideswipe in a totally unrelated column.

Good stuff from TK and hopefully we will get another Start Freddy/Fire Nowak section on PTI today or tomorrow.

I guess there's no such thing as bad press, but sweet Jesus, I'm sick of his ignorance. Doesn't he grasp how stupid he sounds when he talks about a sport he knows fu¢k all about?!
And there is no 61st minute in pointyball.

He spelled the names right. Get over it. Not everyone has to agree with everything.

With his moves, balance and acceleration, I bet Freddy would be excellent at returning punts and kick-offs. And he'd probably be a very good cover-corner.
How 'bout that - he probably plays better defense at football than at futbol!
And, of course, he could also be the backup kicker.
And, hey, if Ginsberg takes Claret's side, Freddy would actually be eligible for the NFL draft! Think Nike wouldn't love that kind of marketing?

Kornheiser is awesome, and funnier than most of us jerks will ever be in our lifetime. So you disagree. get over it.

Agreed, reinforcing the idea that Freddy is mainstream enough to be expected to be understood in an NFL draft joke is good press. Referencing the media-created "controversy" of starting Freddy only adds to the intrigue. It's great press, don't be unhappy about it.

Hey--I'm humor-challenged and even I got it as a good laugh!

While i don't mind the free publicity (though it certainly is not glowingly positive) for Adu and MLS , I do not find TK's latest Post Sports effort to be funny.
I do remember a time, I may have been 15 or 16, when I thought he was a humorous writer. Now I kinda just feel sorry for him. But at least he entertains. It will be interesting to see what he has to say/write once Adu gets his first start.

i love kornheiser, and if you guys dont get him, then thats too bad.
while the guy may not know jackshit about soccer, he is not a soccer basher by any means. and neither is his buddy wilbon.
just be glad that someone that is so widely circulated throughout the country is even mentioning mls. its not like he's even panning adu. he just ignorantly thinks that mls should force dc to start him... just like every other non-soccer guy in the country.
its publicity.

Given Kornhole's penchant for recycling articles and tired old themes, we may have to get used to the whole "Freddy Should Start" shtick.

Capitals are choking dogs ...
Curse of les Boulez ...
Redskins Bandwagon ...
And now, Mr. Freddy "it takes an hour to see me and I've already been asleep for 59 minutes" Adu!
Guys, wake up and smell the coffee. This is the fcuking KISS OF DEATH!
Kornheiser's obsession means there is no way on earth DCU can ever be competitive again. Mourn your beloved Men in Black, for they are dead. Tony's watching.

So TK is going to be constantly mentioning DC United and Freddy Adu and MLS? Sweet!

Tony's watching. As someone who got a mention back in TK's original Bandwagon columns in 91, I just want to point out that that particular bandwagon was NOT the kiss of death. The Skins went 14-2 that year, waltzed through the playoffs and won the Super Bowl over the Bills in a fairly easy game.
Granted, the Skins haven't done fu(k all since then, but the Bandwagon got us to the promised land back then.
