A membership scheme is finally offered by Arsenal!
http://www.arsenal.com/newmem/index.jsp
Another way to show support for the club - I know that I can't go to London every year on the Roadtrip but at least I have a chance to feel like I'm part of the Club . . . most likely, the next trip for me will be Ashburton Grove 2006 or 2007!
Not a bad price either and you get some nice stuff . . .

I signed up to get info on it, and it's definitely something I'd love to join. My only question is whether the 30GBP holds for international supporters as well, or whether they add on for shipping. Still, seems like a good deal to me.

I want more information on it and I might be considering to join the club. Of course I wanted to but money would be a problem for me

What do you get though for nearly $55 really? A member's pack and a card?

supporting the club. they've never had a membership scheme before, and this could be a considerable source of income

Feels like money spinning crap.
I'm already on the TRS and season tickets wait list, and they want money in their hands now to get a certificate to prove it? What about the letter I have at home, doesn't that count anymore?

That's great, they could also ask everyone to drop $100 which would be good for the club, doesn't mean it's necessarily good for the fans.

don't be rediculous mngooner, everyone knows that certificates count more than letters. and i'm sure that the club figured out the exact amount that gave them the most amount of money in relationship to members vs. price. vive le brain squad

Is there no end to the ways they get our money?
Just noticed this: " Your membership is included with your season ticket renewal"
Does that mean they add the £30 quid on?

Check out the site - The Pack Includes:
Exclusive Members' Book
Exclusive DVD
Official Key Ring
Great Memorabilia - cards, a copy of a cup winner's medal from 71
Merchandise Discount - 10% off one transaction over 10GBP - probably not much use to us (if you are across the pond or not in GB) unless we can use it on the Arsenal website.
Other benefits:
Members' Day (up to 5,000 members will see training at Highbury) - not much use to overseas supporters
Voucher Pack - special offers from Arsenal and partners of the club
Exclusive competitions - e.g. win a trip to the training ground
Fan of the Match - win a VIP match day experience
Monthly Newsletter
Membership Magazine - an annual magazine exclusive to members at the end of each year
Membership Website - including online ticketing (possible help to us if we travel to London and don't want to bug Jeff Lancaster! Of course, you can meet the fellow Big Soccer guys in London by heading to T-Birds or Arsenal Tavern or any of the pubs!)
Anyhow, I'm planning to sign up - I was going to get a magazine subscription as well and with the membership package, I can get 10% off the subscription so that's worth it to me. I think the package itself is worth the 30GBP but I hope I won't get killed with shipping.
A lot of us do spend tons of money travelling to London to watch 1 or 2 games already but this does give people who can't go to London all the time to support the team. I think every other team has something like this (probalby started by Merchandise United) but if the aim to be a huge club, additional revenues need to be generated. I like that they have talked to supporters about the club and have spent some time to think about a good membership scheme. I'm not too sure what you get from other clubs but the pack is appealing. My History of Arsenal DVD and Centurions DVD each cost 20GBP IIRC.

Thanks for the info, I checked out the arsenal.com page and the way I read it, the 30# is inclusive of shipping charges. If they were to charge 30 for the membership and then slap on another shipping charge.....well then, they'd really have balls to do that.

Look at it this way: if you sign up, then no one can ever accuse you of not "supporting" the club ever again. It'll make those "Fan/supporter" arguments go away pronto.
Let me check in with the Supporters' Liaison to see what the offer is for us Yanks.

To be honest that is part of the reason that the Club are doing it. Jill Smith told me that although there are 40,000 roughly on the season ticket waiting list, they expect this to lose about 15,000 at least after the schemes are put in place. I think this is good as at the moment, we have people on the list who went on after us winning something and probably won't take them up. We also have people who really do want a ticket, yet they get put off by how long they would have to wait. It will also mean that there will be a severe reduction in the number of tickets available to touts. (which is something English fans are really trying to help get rid of) When it has been inplemented, one of the main benifits will be that the club will have a proper idea of how many fans are going to be wanting tickets in the new stadium. This has been a source of disagreement amoungst fans as well, as I personally am not so sure that we have the fan-base who will buy tickets to sell out this new stadium of ours.

I don't. I *would* resent being called plastic by the assumptionista, when I've spent hundreds of dollars over the years buying club material for myself and friends who I've turned on to Arsenal (and Ajax). So what's another $55?
I wouldn't do it to *prove* myself, but to support the club.

i agree with that. yank and southerner ends at the eastern texas border. so you have yanks, southerners, texans, midwesterners and californians, who i like to just call ********in' weird
