1-0 US. Freddy goes around 87 minutes, shows lots of skill and quickness,a little bit of magic, but as it has looked on TV during the DC games, poor running off the ball and some poor choices on passing v dribbling.I can only remember one shot he took and it was a backheel.Definately a crowd pleaser,I have not heard so many oohs and aahs since David Cassidy's heyday.Needs to improve the off the ball movemant,as it's lack keeps him from getting the ball in space as much as he needs to,plus allows him to be double and triple teamed as he was much of the night

Caprano(sp?) scored on an upper 90 laser from about 25 out. I was impressed with Gaven and Szeltela but I'll comment more on the non DC guys on the Youth Nats thread.

Will make one comment about Haiti though, as I thought watching the senior Nats play last month, if anyone could ever harness and organize their talent, they can be another Cameroon!

classy move for the proceeds to be given to the Nicole Megaloudis Foundation...

1-0 over Haiti Select doesn't sound very impressive even tho it sounds as tho the US had the run of play.

Adu seems like he was involved alot, maybe more like a playmaker?

Ursula,

Am I correct in understanding that Freddy & Co vs. Haiti Select(R) was not obvious enough to indicate that this thread may be about Freddy & the baby Gnats taking on Haiti?

Merged threads

The US was much more organized and tactically aware than Haiti, but NOT any more talented, IMO. I'm predicting a Haitian win Saturday in the rematch, without the 5 MLSers.

For example, the Haitians played at least two high schoolers, the PB and Broward county Players of the Year, so they have some young talent as well.

Between the last two games I've seen them in at senior and u20 level,MLS would be advised to add some more Haitians to the league, very talented, attacking mentality, and not high $$ guys......

Not to mention those guys would do just about anything to get off that forsaken island.

interesting... i never heard haiti had anybody good.

This is the kind of thing that MLS needs to do. go find young cheap talent overseas. there are a ton of good brazilian & argentine young players, but they cost too much. so other than growing our own talent, we need to find those diamonds in the rough...

But back to the game, was freddy playing at forward, or AM?

I saw a clip on the news last night. I was unprepared (who expects soccer highlights in America on a weeknight?), so I may have this wrong, but it looked like a guy came out and just hammered Freddy with a forearm rather than playing the descending ball at one point. Freddy stayed down a while, and there was no card given. The announcer conjectured that it would be hard to believe he'd start after that.

With Clavijo and his MLS contacts running their program, hopefully we will. 'Pedro' Pequero was quite a handful for both Dallas and LA, two of the stronger defensive teams in the league.

An interesting note:
US U-20 w/ Adu vs. Haiti Select in Ft. Lauderdale in April (warm, 75 degrees, Wednesday night) -- 9,105 in attendance
USMNT w/ Donovan, Beasley, Convey, Pope, Bocanegra, et al, vs. Haiti MNT in Miami in March (warm, 70 degrees, Wednesday night) -- 8,714 in attendance.

Isn't that Rapids forwards Peguero (sp?) from Haiti? Looks like a pretty efficient forward to me.

I've never doubted the ability of individual players. It's always been about the team's (lack of) organization. Look at Trinidad. They were pretty much Dwight and the Dreamers; one top-shelf player and a barely-adequate supporting cast.

If this is the play he had to leave the field from, early in the game, the guy got a yellow.Ref was pretty good,IMO,called the real fouls against Freddy and ignored a lot where he just got out muscled.
