Ok, in a nutshell if no one has said it, Spain has the 35 game unbeaten streak, that record is equal to Brazil's.

Brazil did the USA a favor. If records mean anything and I'm not saying they mean that much, the USA could try to stop Spain from getting their 36th straight game unbeaten. Then, Brazil continues to hold that record with Spain. This can be USA's pay back for Brazil's valiant effort against Italy.

Long shot I know we are but it is still worth considering.

Was unable to post this until now.

------------

This is much like "Miracle on Ice", 1980 vs. USSR ice hockey and "The game of their lives", 1950. It's really unbelievable that things would fall this way.

Be kind all, I don't usually start threads on any message boards and have a low profile. I hope no one mentioned this yet. If so, the Moderators can feel free to delete it. I don't think it is too trivial of a detail.

How about we beat them, regardless of any dodgy reasoning for favors? ;)

A win over Spain in the Confederations Cup would be one of the most significant accomplishments in U.S. soccer history. If we preserve a Brazilian record along the way, fine, but its not important. Besides, I'm sure the Brazilians wouldn't mind if Spain broke the record and then their own team annihilated Spain a few days later.

I'm not sure we've payed South Korea back for 2002 yet...I would think they have prior claim... ;)

I dont understand how beating Spain would do Brazil a favor, unless you plan in advance to LOSE to Brazil

Brazil did itself a favor by beating Italy enough to take it out of the tournament, because Italy has an HISTORY of starting really bad in tournaments and then improving and winning it.

If Italy lost 2 matches in the first phase, but still advanced, I bet they would be champs.

exactly, dont forget that even if US did good, Spain is THE TEAM TO BEAT nowadays.

so... if we face Spain in the final... if we lose, ok, we lost to a really strong team, favorite to the World Cup. If we win, thats a GREAT VICTORY.

if we face US... if we win... well, it was not a win against the GREAT Spain... if we lose, we lose against the US!

obviously, thats not very rational, after all, we would be winning or losing to a team that defeated Spain itself, but fans arent rational, now, are they?

No, smart guy, the payback is that Spain can't break Brazil's all-time unbeaten streak they set in the 90s. It has nothing to do with the Confed Cup.

gee, who really cares about an all time unbeaten streak, specially from the 90s?? I mean, that was Parreira´s team! The least that awful team is remembered, the better. I hope Spain DOES break the unbeaten streak.
