I'm sure this has been posted, but has anyone else seen that FSW is going to be broadcasting the US v Mexico game on April 28th? Am I just seeing things?

That's awesome! We don't get Telemundo in the midwest (not even available through full digital cable) so that will be great. It seemed silly to me that no American tv company would want that game. Are you telling me that US-Mexico wouldn't draw as well as World's Strongest Man on ESPN2? Especially with all the Osama crap that went on during the Olympic qualifier. I think it will be heated. Thanks for the update!

ESPN2 didn't take the USA/Mexico game due to conflicts with MLB/NHL/NBA (I'm not sure which). That's usually the reason ESPN declines the USSF's money. Nothing to do with ratings.
Awesome that FSW has picked up the game!

I have no idea which cable systems even carry Telemundo, but it's not on mine (Time Warner in Raleigh, NC). I won't get into the US soccer vs. World Strongest Man or World Series of Poker debate because I'm sure it has nothing to do with ESPN's lack of interest in soccer. I'm just stoked that I can watch this from my own damn couch!

Telemundo isn't actually a cable channel, its a Spanish-language broadcast channel. Usually you'll only receive it if you live in a market with a large Latino population.
But great news about this match on FSW. :)

WOW its about time. Good for FSW for stepping up and delivering English language. THere is nothing wrong with having 2 english language TV networks to show the games to us fans that want to understand it when one is not available.
Who do you think will be the commentators?? I love the combination of Max and the spanish guy that do the Argentinen soccer games. Or even Chris Sullivan who i think did his frist game on FSW this past weekend and is a former US international. He did a good job mixing in those non-english phrases
Max Brettos(SP) and Chris Sullivan i would be very pleased with

I wonder if this has anything to do with SUM (isn't that part of AEG) taking over USSF TV? They also manage (I think) MLS TV, so they have an existing relationship.
Maybe someone who frequents the biz board more than I could shed some light...

Only downside is that we have to listen to MAx Bretos and Alan Hopkins. Anyone who watched KCAL 9's coverage of LA - Colorado this past weekend knows what I'm talking about.

You mean his impromptu concert after the game was over on the webcast? ;)

And here I'd been sitting around thinking this game would be on ESPN. No biggie, but it does make it harder for me to tape the thing. I think I've got move that digital box downstairs to the rec room.

FSW announcers vs ESPN announcers. Overall, IMHO it is a tossup in terms of quality and annoyance factor.

As we all know USA will be playing México April 28, 2004 in Dallas, Texas. I know the game is on Telemundo (on a tape delay, I think). Anyway...unfortunately I don't have Dish Network, but some people I know have Dish Latino, will they be able to watch the game and record it? (I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE "HD" THING, SO I DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL BE ON NORMAL DISH OR WHAT THE DEAL IS, For example like I heard the Haiti mathch was on HD and it wasn't on Dish Network, but maybe I'm wrong.) So if anyone has any ideas what I should do, a trust USA soccer fan can't miss any match, especially against México, and I am not about to! Thanks, write back.
P.S.) Anyone know the ticket amount yet...I hope it's a sell out, but I hope this time time there are at least 5% American fans, unlike the last friendly in Houston...Thanks

I am not sure about the Dish Network bit, as I only currently have an antenna at my house, but in terms of the tickets.... not a sellout. It looks like we (those buying tickets) are making good headway as the $60 (most expensive) done seem to get you within 40 rows on the field. It seems that one end of the lower bowl hadn't been opened up for sale until recently. Buying the low end ($28) tickets is starting to fill that end up.
I haven't been able to 'buy' uppder deck seats on Ticketmaster.com yet, so I don't know if that is being reserved for groups, or just not being sold until necessary.

I know the game is on Telemundo (on a tape delay, I think).
The match is LIVE on Telemundo in Spanish, and both Fox Sports World and HDNet in English. Anybody who gets Telemundo or FSW and has a VCR (or TIVO) can record either one. The match video is bound to be identical with different commentary.
If you don't understand HD, don't even think about it. Until you have a HD Television anyway. It's not to early to start investigating, I am hoping to understand the topic and find it affordable by World Cup Germany 2006.

I'll take Bretos and Hopkins any day. I like Hopkins quite a bit. And Bretos is a homer... which is just what I want for a Mexico game.

Why don't they include USA matches (men / women / Uxx ) in the MLS Direct Kick package (during MLS season of course)? Nobody would mind paying a little more for that.

Betos and Hopkins have some of the same problems as any US announcing team in tersm of the accuracy of some of their commentary, but they actually crack me up sometimes. I can forgive a lot as long as you say something that actually entertains me now and then.

The only thing that annoys me more than some of the commentary I hear out of any soccer announcer is the amount of bitching that goes on around here about soccer announcers.
Bretos, Hopkins, so be it. I am watching the game.
