Setanta in the US is safe

http://www.setanta.com/global/us.html

As has been widely reported in various media channels, Setanta Sports has today had its agreement to broadcast 46 Barclays Premier League matches in the UK terminated.
This development does not affect our channels and other services in the US.
Setanta Sports in the US is a separate operation that has separate agreement to show the Barclay’s Premier League. Our channels and other services in the US continue to broadcast and our subscribers can still enjoy our programming including the Lions Tour of South Africa and the UEFA U21 European Championship.
New customers are welcome to subscribe to watch some of the world’s best soccer and rugby either by contacting our cable and satellite partners or online at www.setanta.com (http://setanta.com/us).
We thank you for your continued interest in Setanta Sports and look forward to bringing you a wealth of sport over the coming months and years.

Unless you're a rugby fan, what's the point of signing up for Setanta anymore?

Hopefully ESPN will pick up some of the games Setanta was slated to broadcast.

the setanta here in the US will be business as usual and still be showing EPL games

Good God I hope not, of all stations I've watched ESPN is the worst for soccer matches. Their constant use of split screen to update me on meaningless baseball scores or NFL trades when it isn't even is season pisses me off like nothing else!

I get the impression that Setanta Ireland/United Kingdom may fold.

If so, wouldn't that affect Setanta USA?

Or do they just share a name in common, but nothing else.

Setatana US is run as a different company and has nothing to do with its English Cousin. Just like the realtionship betweetn FSC and Sky Sports.

Setanta is safe here.

Setanta was a pile of shit anyway. I don't know why they just don't give all the games to Sky. Both times companies have tried to rival Sky they've gone bust. Why risk a third?

cause everyone hates Murdoch. Sky have forced the prices up of the games and other sports events so other tv companies can't compete.

Setanta in the US is safe as its seperate to the UK operations. They made a statement on there website here in the US saying it was business as usual.

I love Setanta here in the US. We actually get more games on tv here in the states then what SKY shows in England.

ESPN in the UK will only be interested in the EPL and the SPL and not the other ones Setanta in the UK used to have.

Setanta may still be in existence in the States, but I think it's fair to say that it's problems in the UK have affected programming here.

No more early match on Saturday mornings on Setanta USA.:(
No more Monday matches on Setanta USA.:(
No more "Football Matters" or the "Friday Football Show":(

But at least they'll be airing a couple matches on Saturdays, one on Sunday, and the occasional Tuesday or Wednesday match.

For now at least.

Yep I was thinking that the other day when I seen what matches Setanta are going to be showing. I did hear a rumour that ESPN was gonna be showing the early EPL matches in the USA which is something Setanta and ESPN have denied.

Im gonna miss special 1 tv.

Im gonna have a think about whether to keep Setanta or not but that depends on what Everton games they are gonna be showing. I know they intend on showing the Merseyside Derby.

you can download the whole interview too. they talk to gol first, think setanta comes on around 20 minutes. they mentioned comcast in the bay area and florida as two major markets to be getting setanta soon.

Thanks I am listening now. There is a rumour over ESPN2 showing the early Saturday morning fixtures and possible Monday afternoon fixtures. Theres a rumour of the Chelsea v Hull match being shown on ESPN2. Theres still a contract waiting to be signed so its not 100% sure if fsc will show this or ESPN2.

Some games will be on ESPN 360 too. I get that for free with my ISP.

Here's a link to an article with some more info:

http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/14/epl-on-espn-in-the-us/

ESPN will be showing the Portsmouth vs Everton match on Sept 26.

And, for some reason, will be showing three Burnley matches in August/September.

Go Burnley!
