"That was a cold shower for us," said United Head Coach Peter Nowak. "That game allows us to wake up and get back to work."

We are working every day on soccer and on being mentally and physically strong - Novak
I like Peter's thinking. I know this is not new info for anyone, but I still love the fact he is continuing to focus on the mental toughness issue.:)

I liked the following bit:
Following the loss, there were opportunities for excuses to explain away the loss - a foul that could have been called, problems with the artificial surface - but none were offered. The only explanation offered by United was a lack of effort.
THIS is how a winner reacts.

Its the sign of a new beginning -
As much as I liked Ray's quibs and quotes (and he too would have admitted to poor play causing defeats), this type of honesty is refreshing to hear in DC - All the other professional teams haven't been able to be honest about themselves (nor have any of our politicians, either!!) -
This type of attitude was one of the hallmarks of Bruce Arena too - We're going back to the beginning
