I was just randomly clicking on icons for the new forum and this "reputation" item popped up. Evidently it is a sort of peer-review point system -- if somebody likes your post they can give you a reputation point. If they don't, I'm not sure but maybe it takes one away? It just has an "I agree, I disagree" option...so not sure how it exactly works.

The icon I clicked is the little silver scale in the left corner of a post. I went through and gave a few people some points myself, but I wanted to find out if anybody else was doing so. I think it's a good way to figure out if what you're saying makes sense to people, or if you're way out in left field ... maybe we should all start rating each other's posts :)

(Hey, let's give whistleblower a negative score...har har. Just kidding, pal)

A little behind the times, are we Sparky?

Figures, the refs are always the last to know...

(The little green boxes have been dubbed nipples. If you hold your cursor over them ((also known as rubbing the nipples)) you can see what your current reputation status is. There were many people with very high levels of reputation for a time before Huss reset the levels. This reset was caused by Bill Ar*cher complaining that the BSSM crew and other, similar threads were "circle-jerking" to give each other high levels. Of course, he was right, but he didn't need to be a douche bag about it.)

Ahhh, I was a name known to all under the old system...

Its been working ok since Huss reset it. Now you basically have to get repped by an Admin before you can hand out points, which means really only people who deserve it end up with it.

There are a few posters around with high reps, but admins are at the moment the only ones who really have enough juice to get you started.

The big question is why would anybody want to use this system and what does it count for anyway?

There's a thread on it in the Suggestions and Announcements forum.

Basically, it's another system for 'filtering out the noise'. People unfamiliar with the users on here can use it to see who is a respected poster, and who is not, judging from their reputation.

As to why you would use it... it's a way to show your appreciation for something someone has written. If you choose to do so.

The only forum I read is the Referee forum since I don't have time for the others (and they don't interest me as much), so if it hasn't been said here I haven't heard it :)

Rubbing nipples... I think I prefer the real thing, thank you very much.

I can't imagine why people would work so hard to get high reputations. Bragging rights? There are better things in life to brag about than points on a soccer forum. I just think it's nice to show others you like what they have to say, and I know I would certainly be more encouraged to provide quality responses if others appreciate the effort, but maybe that's just me. At any rate I'll continue to use the system whether it works or not, simply because I do appreciate what others have to say and it's a nice way to let them know.

I'm not sure its so much an issue of bragging rights or 'working' for a high rep... I was one of the BSSMers and it sort of just seemed to happen.

Like you said, for me its nice to let people know when they've said something useful, and to encourage good posting. Also, the trolls and idiots will obviously be indicated through this system.

So eventually, hopefully a new user can come on here and immediately recognise who the decent users are, and who are the jerks. 'Filtering out the noise' always helps, especially in forums like this where you can get both reasoned debate and the odd moron.

Someone negative repped me in this thread.

I find this ironic.

Don't feel bad, I got negative repped myself (evidently for starting the thread in the first place according to the comment :))

So if we are going to use this tool, let's make it work.

1) My points for this post is even and when I click on THIS POST, all I get is another page with the same post, no new info that I can see.

2) I have some points , I guess from other posts, but cannot see how to look at them.

3) I should be able to see the total points of someone else, not just leave a positive or negative check mark. That would tell me what others think of him, overall.

You can find out who's given your reputation points, and what they've said by going to "My BigSoccer". It'll be listed under any forums/threads you've subscribed to. I found this by accident, but it's pretty cool.

Since I have subscribed to no forums or threads, I guess I am just going to be bllind to any comments others make about me. Sounds like a typical ref situation.

Actually, you still should be able to see it, I would imagine. Let me find out from the bigsoccer 'gods' and I'll let you know.

1) Go to your "My BigSoccer" and if you have received any rep, it will show how much, who gave it to you, and for what post

2) See No. 1

3) Rub the nipples. It will tell you roughly where they stand. Rule of thumb: Green is ok, Gray is bad, multiple nipples is better.
