Fletch Lives is on AMC right now, which made me remember just how much I love these movies, especially Chevy's character. I just love his dry wit and self-depricating humor in these movies.
So which movie is better, Fletch or Fletch Lives?

Chevy Chase was born devoid of talent.
And yet he managed to get progressively worse as his life went on.
By the time he dies, he should be hovering right around the Darryl Hannah/Margaret Chow/Whoopi Goldberg level of talent. As it is now, though, he's sitting still safely at only the Jeff Goldbloom level of no talent.

Spies Like Us was genius.

C'mon! Give Chevy a break AFL (even though that was a funny post). In his day, he was golden. Vacation, Euro Vacation and even Christmas Vacation are terrific movies!
I think Fletch Lives is one of the better sequels but Fletch, the original takes the cake.

Gotta be Fletch.
The whole Laker bit...
"He's 6-5, but 6-9 with the Afro!"
Genius.

What do you guys think of Kevin Smith wanting to do a new Fletch movie. IIRC, the studios were for it, but opposed Smith's choice of casting his buddy Jason Lee as Fletch. Lee has made some stinkers, but has alos turned in some great preformances.

Jason Lee would be a great 21st century Fletch IMO. In fact, Lee's Brody in Mallrats reminds me a lot of Chase's Fletch character. But if he turns in a performance like he did in Vanilla Sky, or in that movie he did with David Schwimmer, he can stay home.
I think Smith could probably do a pretty good job writing/directing it.

My personal choice for Fletch would be Ryan Reynolds, from Van Wilder and Two Guys and a Girl. He might be a little young for the role, but his comedic delivery is perfect for the role.

This poll is such a waste. Please use the following mathematical formula to see why:
Fletch = funny movie
Fletch Lives = not funny movie
See it's science really.

Boo. They both rock. Fletch is only slightly funnier than Fletch Lives.

Jason Lee is best under Kevin Smith's direction.

Spies Like Us was genius.
YES!
I remember going to the cinema to see this and almost wetting myself at some point in it.
Yes I was about 7 or 8 at the time but still, a great film.

Both were funny movies, but I'd have to say Fletch was slightly the funnier of the two. Chevy Chase is one of my favourite actors of all time... especially in the National Lampoons movies.
By the way, does anyone want Mr Underhill's credit card number? :D

Have to say, I agree.
As much as it pains me to side against someone who owns a bar - I like Chevy Chase in the kind of mid-80s bracket that he fitted.
Yes he went downhill massively - like Dan Akroyd, but at his peak he was fantastic.
The first few National Lampoons he did were great, Spies Like Us, the Three Amigos and Caddyshack are also worth a watch if they turn up on TV.
And I know I'm going to get pilloried for this but what's the issue with Jeff Goldblum too? I've never had to many problems with him, but then I've not really seen that much of his, outside The Fly.
