This thread is specifically for discussion on our foreign based players. Only players who have at one time or another been capped at either junior or senior level and are currently contracted to a pro club can be discussed here.

Don't really know where I should put this, but figured here would be good :

Disappointing!

Both deserve a lot better; but in saying that, Leon is a decent team and at this point anything is better than being stuck in El Salvador with Alianza.

To be compeletely honest i rather have them stay. The second division? Seriously, they deserve to play in Europe. They are not going to get better in a second division. I was hoping they didn't sign with anyone, especially since they was the Copa Oro and other games left in the Hex to be scouted by better teams. :(

I don't get lisandro Pohl, He wouldn't let Castillo leAve to Chipre but he lets him go to a 2nd division team in Mexico under loan WTFudge? What a bunch of babooms... they should of waited for better Offers, maybe MLS for example.

I think Pohl knows what he is doing. He knows both Zelaya and Castillo are very talented and have just started showing what they can do in the international level. If he were to sell them now to an MLS or 1st division Mexican team his team would not make much money. But if he loans them out to a team in Mexican, he allows Zelaya and Castillo to prove themselves for a year, hopefully 1st division teams will look at Zelaya and Castillo and create more interest for them in big Mexican teams, or at least medium sized teams. Why would he sell them now when he can loan them out bring them back and sell them for more than they are worth now in a year.

Interesting. According to Metapan there was interest from Leon but Martinez turned it down in order to sign with Alianza.

I say give it another 24 hours, and then we'll know what's really going down.

That's assuming they will play well in Mexico like they do for the national team.

Fact is both aren't nearly as effective when it comes to playing for their club team, and well if that continues in Mexico then their price could drop instead of increase.

Also, hopefully they both have release clauses in their contracts incase Alianza gets relegated. I'd hate to see them (and other talented players who play for Alianza) get dragged down into the second division on a technicality. This is also one reason i can't understand why Martinez would sign for them (Alianza that is). Yes, he'll be getting more there than at Metapan; but to move from the best team in the country to arguably the worst just for a extra 20,000 a year just doesn't make sence IMO. Especially considering Metapan are in the CCL and if he were to impress there (and continue to impress in the national team) then he could possibly get greater offers for bigger money.

An extra $20,000 is a lot of money in El Salvador and in the USA. If both players aren't as effective in their clubs why do we want them to go to Spain, they'll be sitting on the bench the whole season. I think this 2nd Division Mexican team is a great opportunity for both Zelaya and Castillo; they need to prove themselves here if they want to go to bigger things.

I'm not saying $20,000 isn't good money. All i'm saying is that he (Martinez) is not looking at the big picture. He sees that he's going to get more money now, when if he took the time to think it over, he would see that staying at Metapan was his best option at moving out of the league and going some place bigger were he could make atleast double that amount (This is of course if he did sign with Alianza and not Leon like the Mexican reports are saying).

Also i'm not saying player like Zelaya and Castillo will fail once they go overseas because they struggle with Alianza. My responce was directed at your comment saying Pohl knows what he's doing. You assumed that Pohl knows that both will succedd in Mexico's second division when really, nothing is certain. Of course if they play like they do in the national team then no doubt their stock will rise, but if they play like they do at Alianza (where they are both inconsistent) then it'll more than likely fall. That's just the way it is. Also being forigners, they will also have more pressure on them to perform. It's not like at Alainza (or the majority of our clubs for that matter) where you can get by on name recognition alone even though you are not playing at your best.

Also you say that both would be benched in Europe, while at the same time you assume they will be starters in Mexico. Again, nothing is a given. They could go there (Mexico), play like they do here and spend the year on the bench. It's not entirely impossible. Either way, if that was the case i'd rather them be benching for a team in Europe than a team in the Mexican second divison.

In the end i just think it's a poor decision by both players. They deserve more. But in saying that i wish them well and hope they succedd. Hopefully their stay in the second division is only for one year and then they can move onto something better.

Wow...that sucks...their isn't a big difference playing in Mexico 2nd division and El Salvador 1st division besides the payment they get and the stadium they play in. I wanted to see them in Spain or the very least in MLS. Imagine Castillo in Spain 2nd division, could have been the next Lucas Lobos or better.

Zelaya will be 21 this year he is still very young let him get use to playing away from El Salvador, they know this is a small chance for them to succeed and impress, just like they have that same opportunity in la seleccion; that is why they play their best in la seleccion cuz they know other teams are watching. Plus they seem to have a nice stadium.

Also didn't Mauricio Cienfuegos play in Club Leon?

That's good then because Zelaya still young. Castillo should go to Spain or the very least MLS. All of us should start sending Castillo's videos to club sites to Portuguese clubs, Spain 1st and 2nd Division, or Italian clubs.

Yes lets start sending them to Argentinen clubs (1st division of course) and Spanish 2nd and Portuguese 1st division clubs and Italy Seria B clubs. Anything but MLS I don't want our talented players to end up in MLS.
