I like this CD. It sort of makes me think of the Libertines without the drugs and booze. The lyrics are crap, but the sound is great. Jacqueline and the The Dark of the Matinee are standouts.

I think the CD's o.k but no more than that, Jacqueline is the stand out track which means it's pretty much down hill from there. I've read a few journo's who've made the Orange Juice comparison but for me it's just lazy thinking. The theory seems to be that they're both indie they're both from Glasgow so therefore one must have influenced the other. I have whole batch of Postcard Records stuff at home but they sound more like the Gang of Four to me.

Thanks, Astorian. I missed the earlier thread, but their named popped up in another thread and Pitchfork raved about them. Next thing I know, I'm getting a box from Amazon.

I've listened to it a few more times and my first opinion still stands. I would like to add that I believe these guys must have spent some time listening to their parents' Blondie records. About three songs have very Blondie-ish sounds to them.

if you get a chance to see these guys live, sell an arm and a leg if necessary and hitchhike to chicage this summer, but by all means see them. They put on a GREAT live show. Very "tight", high energy, rock and roll without trying too hard. Saw them in austin about a month ago and they brought down the house.

I was just about to say basically the same thing. Gonna see them again in June in NYC. It's good to see people dancing at a rock show again.

I guess it's that late 70's/early 80's disco-punk beat they're playing.

amen, I hate this nod your head eversoslightly just enough for people to know that you're awake, but not awake enough to be too "into" the music.

I love dancing at shows, but the last time I went to the 9:30 club, the place was so packed, dancing was not possible. Actually, breathing was barely possible.
