Anyone who saw his cross to Alvarez wanna tell me why he shouldn't play RM for the Nats? I thought not.
Just being able to his a sweet cross does not a winger make.
Right now, Landon is as good as we got up top. Something else to think about is who would play up top if Landon was on the right? Maybe Twellman, but he hasn't shown well, Mathis is more of an attacking mid, Wolff is almost never healthy, Casey is a target forward, Buddle is untested, Adu is a ways away. Anybody else?
Anyway, why does this thread keep coming up? The horse is already dead. ITS ALREADY DEAD!

I can't speak about the U17 WC as I didn't see those matches (though conventional wisdom that the US used two forwards - Jordan Cila and Donovan); however, for the USMNT Donovan has rarely played right midfield as he is usually a forward and occasionally a central midfielder. He has had a few impressive performances at right midfield.
At the 1999 U17 WC in New Zealand, Landon Donovan played FORWARD. The usual starting right midfielders were Adolfo Gregorio and Bryan Jackson.

Really? I did not know that. I just assumed he was a forward and/or CM on that team. That's interesting.
don't hold me to that 100% but IIRC he was at right wing
nevertheless when mcbride can dominate the air around the box, i think its madness not to have LD on the right - he's small, fast and the best crosser from the right on the team - he can practically run the counter from there instead of waiting on others to get him the ball... for instance, v. mexico at WC02

At the 1999 U17 WC in New Zealand, Landon Donovan played FORWARD. The usual starting right midfielders were Adolfo Gregorio and Bryan Jackson.
Which brings up a point, that if Gregorio ever finds a place to play in England or Portugal could he be one of Nutmeg's surprises? Of course time is running out and he would need to find decent level of play to prove himself.

In Ghana, Addo is like Smith or Jones in this country. Very common. By contrast, and in every sense of the word, Adu is not common.
Ok, just thought I'd display my ignorance for all to see.....thanks for the info
