If D.C. United makes it to the US Open Cup Semis, from July 18th to August 9th, the schedule is gonna be insane but freaking insane (Thank god they are no longer in Superliga). Great for the fans but I think the coach should use 2 teams during that period (that would be my move).
How Insane is the schedule?? Every 3 or 4 days for 3 weeks, they will be playing a game.
See for yourself:
July 18 MLS Match (Colorado)
July 21/22 US Open Cup Semis
July 25 MLS Match (San Jose)
July 28 CCL First Leg
August 1 MLS Match (Houston)
August 4 CCL Second Leg
August 9 Friendly (Real Madrid)
Insane! All I gotta say is that if D.C. United goes unbeaten (maybe have a tie or 2 in there), this team is one of the best and deepest squads we had in a while. No Question.
Now if they win it all . . . . what a Great Summer!!

We already have a current thread about this (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1066740), since three days ago. We needed another one?

They have no chance of it now; you just jinxed it.

I don´t believe in that anymore but for those who still do, consider this the only time I will mention this . . . . except for after the friendly game.

As a Fire fan, I would like to thank gringolimon for this thread. Like no other supporters in the league, DC fans are always willing to spit in the face of the soccer gods. :p

Don't believe in them. Never have. If they existed, CJ Brown wouldn't be playing in MLS.

No, you are confusing us with Blanco. If you believe that Soccer Gods have a hand in something, it´s making the improbable happen. By simply having faith and hope that this will happen is not a slap in the face to the Soccer Gods; if anything it´s a ¨prayer¨ to make it happen . . . just like I have done so many times before. For example, the inaugural 96 season where I said in mid season that I wasn´t going to lose hope on DC United making the playoffs and how insane it would be that they qualify . . . . and when they were down 0-2 in the finals and I said how insane it would be if they would come back and win.
But that´s something you as a Fire fan wouldn´t know anything about . . . and won´t know for a very . . . very . . . very long time.

"Soccer" Gods? The influence of the Woof/Weauxf Gods extends well beyond soccer. It encompasses all competitive athletic endeavors. Oliver's Woofing Theorem (http://www.google.com/search?q=oliver's+woofing+theorem) explains the truth. If Dustin (El Jefe) is around, I'm sure he'll back me up on this.

Who is Oliver? And why is he woofing?

"Could this be a memorable D.C. United Summer??" is the new "Best DCU Team Ever?"

This thread should be thrown into an unmarked grave next to last year's "Best DCU Team Ever?" thread.

Let's put this thread out of our misery.
Fact #1: Every summer that DCUnited plays and we are fortunate enough to be able to watch is BY DEFINITION a memorable summer. Even the lean years were still a great time to be a part of the Barra, sitting and the sun, watching our team.
Fact #2: Nearly every Barra I know makes an effort at some point during the season to erase their memory, usually as a result of too much "fun" at the tailgate, making that particular game a somewhat-less-than-completely-memorable day. Nonetheless, on balance I refer you to Fact #1.
Fact #3: Given all this schedule congestion, we should focus our efforts less on juju and more on making sure the Barra is full for all these games. I know the team cares and a full, rocking stands is our best argument for attention from the press and the pols -- especially in a year when the Nats and O's appear less than world class.
Do Soccer Gods exist? Who knows. Given some of the beauty I've seen in RFK its hard to say know in any compelling way. Still, whether are not, them above's the FACTS.
Vamos United.

This can be a "memorable D.C. United summer" only we win something (USOC) or get into & advance through the tournaments (CCL and MLS Cup)
Or if Benny makes a resurgence in July/Aug to help us in critical stretches - Or if Gomez can go 80/90 two or three games in a row - Or if Emilio (and Fred) can catch fire and start scoring goals again - Or if Tino/Pontius/et alia on the wings, really step up and contribute goals on a game-to-game consistent basis

Actually, it's even simpler than that.
It'll be a memorable DC United summer if I can go to a few more summertime games at RFK, see all the banners up and the flags waving, hear the supporters singing, see Salvatore bring his drum to the quiet side to liven things up, and go on a couple of road trips.
It'll be a spectacular summer if we win something.
