Well, obviously Vieira isn't going anywhere, so we don't need to discuss that part of the article. Andy van der Meyde-I haven't seen him play, so somebody fill me in. What side does he play on? Would he be able to step in for Freddie if he is sold?

He's a right footed player who's comfortable on either wing. He's played well against us the past two years in the CL. Last year it was with Ajax, and this year with Inter. He scored an absolute cracker in the 3-0 defeat at Highbury. That said, I don't think he's better than Freddie.

He is young though and has a huge upside.. the problem is he is in a definite rutt at inter, maybe a move would suit him... I would not be pleased if yall landed him because he would just add more depth to your squad... which is deep enough for my liking anyway...

And he wouldn't be the first player to make a move from Ajax to Inter Milan, then fall on bad times, only to end up at Highbury...ah, living in my namesake's wonderland.

By all accounts, he has had a pretty lacklustre year at Inter, and I thought he was a ghost against us at the San Siro, as all of Inter were.

Speaking of depth, from his past and current attitude, I think it highly unlikely he would want to battle Freddie and Pennant (and possibly Sylvain?) for the right wing starting spot. On the left, he'd be very valuable cover/possible successor for SuperBob, but again, I think he wants guaranteed time. That's why he was making noise about going back to Ajax this year. Hope he and Van der Vaart don't end up at ManU, though. That would just about kill me...or at least leave me sulking a while.

Hopefully, the Iceman stayeth this year

isn't Mohammed Kallon's name being tossed around as well? I like Arsenal's african flair that you notice with guys like Vieira (born in Senegal), Toure, Kanu and Lauren. I'm not terribly familiar with Kallon but he is a proven goalscorer from my understanding...

Proven goalscorer?

He's only scored more than 10 goals in 1 season and that was in 1999. Plus he hasn't played all year to to his nandralone suspension.

Well, I don't think the club would be able to make a move for him without selling someone, and the only person who probably could be sold for a decent amount without really messing with the squad is Freddie. Then again, if they do sell Freddie, I think I would rather see them get Wright-Phillips since he's played so well this year.

VdM is a wonderful crosser also. he lacks the pace of freddie though.

having Wright-Phillips would be very interesting in that he would be like his birth right. (well not birth right; he's adopted!)

You're right, for a a second there I thought they had oil tsar money. When they bought Jeffers, I thought that Freddie could actually be that fox-in-the-box; he's looked more dangerous and effective there for us (see Portsmouth FA Cup) and for Sweden than on the wing, particularly since injuries have taken something off his pace. We could truly use someone who can take on the opposition off the dribble on that right side, and Wright-Phillips would be a fine replacement.

W-P vs Pennant: Both play similar styles and were essential players for their respective teams this year, but character goes to W-P (how can you go wrong there?), ability to take players on - W-P, shooting - W-P, tracking back - slight edge to W-P.

vdm is a very good player. as an inter fan id hate to see him go, hell i hat watching him unhappy and wasting his talent not playing at inter. he should be able to help any teamon either wing crossing the ball. he does have a great shot also. a move to highbury may be the place to be, who knows.
