Just back from London, it was a great time before and during the match. The match report over at whufc.com does a good job of describing the action, which did take a while to settle down. Overall there were a lot of bad touches for both sides until West Ham scored the first goal. The crowd was both supportive and tense. I could hear the songs and chants throughout the stadium but the folks next to me were not pleased with the play and were letting their feelings be known. Honestly I can't blame them for some of their frustration, there was a lot of "A-League" quality play out there.

As for players that stood out.. Connolly was the only player who received praise throughout the match. He had some great touches in the second half and took the pk well. During the first half his running off the ball, defending and challenging every ball in the air despite being what seemed to be a foot shorter than the defenders he was going up against. On the negative side was the left-back (Ferdinand I Think) was a severe liabililty on the attack and he seemed to do a poor job closing down the flank. I gather this is not his natural position let's just hope this experiment has ended.

In the end I felt the first goal was against the run of play as WHU had no ideas on the attack and CC looked to be dangerous at times, after the goal play was even with West Ham being able to hold the ball a bit more, the pk effectively ended the match. Oh and The Hammeretts put on an a good show at the half;)
