I just came back from watching this movie (as well as watching The Punisher (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106382) afterward), and I really enjoyed it, though it was was rather different from Kill Bill, Vol. 1 (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76361).
There's not nearly the blood that the first movie had, and I suppose it was somewhat slower than its predecessor (though it still had some kick-ass fight scenes), but in its place had more characterizations and explanations as to why the massacre at the wedding chapel happened. As such, it strangely seemed to be almost a different style of movie despite having the same director (just as I felt that The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers also had the same director, yet displayed two very different styles). It's certainly not a worse film, (unless you truly need the ultra-bloody fighting of the first film), just different.
The best sequence, though, was the flashback scenes of Beatrix Kiddo's (a.k.a. The Bride, played by Uma Thurman) training at the hands of Pai Mei, whose somewhat-brutal training eventual helps her out several times throughout the film.
I enjoyed the film, and can't wait until the Kill Bill DVD dual set (including both films) is inevitably released. There are even rumors of Tarantino planning a Volume 3, though it's unlikely to be his next film. In any case, I can't wait.
Oh, and it's pretty cool that Bill (played by David Carradine) is a comic-book fan, which actually helps him explain to Beatrix part of why he did what he did at the chapel... if you've already seen the film, then you'll know what I mean. :D

Yeah, I went in expecting a bloody sequel but got something totally different. Well, except the part when The Bride rips out Elle's eye. That was just gross. But like you said, it wrapped everything up and made it all more clear. I thought it was a bit slow at some points but overall I enjoyed it even though my roommates hated it.

I too did the double matinee today (Kill Bill 2 then Punisher, what a day at the movies!!) Did the eye ball scene seem like a slight spoof of the Odyssey, when the Cyclops lost his eye (the screaming is what I felt was parallel in nature). The spoof on 70's Kung Fu was great (I tend to enjoy any type of training scenes).Gosh, I was 7 years old when I first drooled over Daryl Hannah.Oh my goodness, she played the heck out of that BIYATCH role didn't she? WOW she had some lips!!!! Good to see Tarantino Old Boy Samuel L. say a few lines as the organ player. I think I got my money's worth. I wonder who will score top's opening weekend, Punisher or Kill Bill 2??

Just got back...it was a great movie, but did drag for a little bit. The theatre I was in exploded when Elle lost her other eye in what was the greatest cat fight in history.

I really enjoyed it, especially considering it as a whole film over the two parts. There was more than enough violence in Vol. 1 to satiate me for Vol. 2 which added depth and soul and substance to the film. The diologue was a lot stronger than in Vol. 1 (which makes sense since there was less fighting) and I think the reasonable criticisms I've heard of the two films balance out when you consider the other had what was maybe lacking.
As a total asside, did anyone else have their mind blown by About Her by Malcom #$&%ing McLaren. The one that samples She's Not There by the Zombies. I can't believe Tarantino went to McLaren for a new song and I can't believe McLaren delivered so brilliantly.

I thought Kill Bill was good, but I thought Volume 2 was great. I really enjoyed all the dialogue, and particularly the way Tarantino constructed the movie. For example, the scene where we first see Uma Thurman in a coffin. She's sitting there struggling, all she has is a flashlight, and you're thinking, "how in the hell is she going to get out of this one?" You have no idea whatsoever. Then, the movie goes into her, 4 and 1/2 years earlier sitting by a fire talking to Bill and then training with Pei Meing. When it goes back to the coffin, you then understand how she will manage to escape. It was brilliant to me, as were some other aspects of the movie.
I do wish that he could have somehow taken a little bit out of each of the movies and made it one movie. Still, I can't wait to go out and buy the second one. If you haven't seen it, you should make the trip to the theatre.
For those who saw the punisher, how was it?

Yes, absolutely. At about that point I was thinking how much better the music in the first one was, and then that started up and I was a happy girl. Amazing.

Check out The Punisher link in the first post of this thread - it includes my review of the movie. :)

Great flick :)
Quick question fellas. At the end of the movie the bride is in the bathroom floor holding a teddy bear and saying "thank you" who is she thanking ?

She was thanking God for letting her find her daughter and having them both escape safely from Bill (after she found out near the end of the film that her daughter was still alive, of course).

Brilliant movie. Homages to Hitchcock, John Ford and Jackass all in the same movie.
I hope they rerelease Vol. 1 in the theaters as a double billing with Vol. 2 so both can be watched together on the big screen.
David Carridine was superb.

I wouldn't be shocked if she was, though. It certainly wouldn't be the only irony in the film.

Anyone else notice how Gordon Liu played Johnny Mo in Volume 1 and Pai Mei in Volume 2? :D

Yeah, I pointed it out to my friend who was with me as soon as Pai Mei came on the screen.

I saw it last night and was totally unimpressed by it. Unlikely vol. I, I found vol. II rather boring through many spots.

*some spoilers*
I was sort of expecting more of a climactic battle between The Bride and Bill... but you can't have it all. Slightly less exposition might've allowed time for that.
While there was less action than Vol. 1, what there was, I liked. The Pai Mei flashbacks were pretty decent. The Bride/Elle fight was quite good. But it would've been nice for Beatrix to have been involved in Budd's demise.

And with Bea-Bea (sp?) defending Beatrix. By the way, Bea-Bea somehow looks like Darryl (Sp?) Hannah to me. Are they related?
