72 Degrees under the roof, unless the game was at night when it would be about 72 degrees outside.

"Big Dog reports there is no match. US and Australia couldn't agree on a date.

Stay tuned . . ."

I hope the USA can play a couple of matches in November vs. anyone. It's the best time possible to look at some new players that BA may want to add to the player pool. Players who don't hack in these types of matches, well they had their tryout and played themselves out of the pool.

Well personally, this probaly wouldn't be the most exciting game, but what-the-heck! The US would be playing again. Good enough.

Well...the schedule is back til 12-31-02, but they have removed Australia as the opponent.

Time block from 3PM to 5PM on ESPN....

Somebody jumped the gun...Perhaps Australia wanted their European based players available....

My guess is when they announce Bruce's extension, they'll announce the match and opponent.....

That's one of the factors which my contact at Soccer Australia told me. Frank Farina will want his best players available for high-profile friendlies from this point onward, which shouldn't be a reason to postpone a game if he can't get them...

So any ideas on who the opponent may be, instead of the Socceroos?

Cheers,
William

[i]Originally posted by Preston North End I would guess they can draw 20-25K for this game. If it were a more marketable opponent (or a "full" Australian side), it could probably get 30K.
So you're saying that 5-10K would make their decision whether to attend this match based on whether Viduka and Kewell are going to play? I doubt that very much. Maybe 500 to 1000.

Probably true, but not for any that will be involved in U-20 qualifying Nov 13-17. That could include:
Quaranta, E. Johnson, Stone, Mapp, Capano, Barclay

How did I forget Convey?

He should be involved in U-20 qualifying as well, and would be the most likely of any of the U-20s of being invited to a senior team camp, since he has been there before.

Anyhow, it looks like there will be a friendly in Phoenix in November, since the stadium and TV arrangements appear to be done. Getting a decent opponent shouldn't be that difficult, I hope.

Do we actually have to play a game at that point in time? It's post MLS season and a lot of those guys will be on vacation I think. All our WC MLS players need a much deserved rest after the grueling schedule they are playing. I don't think we'll actually play then.

I wonder if the NJSEA still is trying to get Brasil @ Giants Stadium.

Also, playing on Nov. 17 means European-based players would be available as it's an "official FIFA friendly" date.

Would the game still be in Phoenix?

Washington Post reports that DC is trying to get the game on the 17th. Still says Brasil or Auztralia.

Oh good, another game in Foxboro or DC. And the USSF wonders why national TV ratings don't improve...

I am holding out hope for Naperville but don't expect it to happen.

The Midwest, save KC, has not had a USMNT game since 1994. Dallas, Phoenix and other good cities are being snubbed. After some of the fiascos in DC, September 1, 2001 being one of them, DC is not a good choice.

I would guess RFK is being considered because it is one of the few (maybe the only but my laziness keeps me from researching this) large stadiums in the country that will not be torn up by football in mid-November.

Is Columbus the midwest??

Agreed that DC is not always the right choice although it is a freaking cash cow, but to correct some inaccuracies encompassed in "The Midwest, save KC, has not had a USMNT game since 1994."

Dallas had a game on March 25, 1995
Columbus has had three games since CCS opened
Denver had a Mexico game last year

Since 1995 games have been played in:
San Jose
Portland
San Diego
Jacksonville
Ft. Lauderdale
Birmingham (two times)
Oakland
Seattle

So people are considered less than some of the eastern sites but not "snubbed". While Foxboro and DC get a lot of games, they get the crowds. Sure they aren't the kinda crowds we all want, but I'm sure economics has something to do with it.

And I don't see why that correlates to lower TV ratings, but far be it from facts to get in the way.

All that said, DC and NE had their chances this year. Give it to someone else.

The BOB in Phoenix will not be torn up by football since it's a baseball stadium. And correct me if I'm wrong, but Arizona hasn't had a game since 92 or 93

Like I said, I was too lazy to research that. Was Arizona even a state in 92?? ;)
