SPORTS COMPLEX IN EL SALVADOR TO BE NAMED AFTER L.A. GALAXY'S MAURICIO CIENFUEGOS A TRIBUTE TO GALAXY MIDFIELDER BY THE SALVADORAN COMMITTEE "EL PICHE"

PASADENA, CA (Wednesday, August 28, 2002) - Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Mauricio Cienfuegos will be honored with the construction of the "Mauricio Cienfuegos Sport Complex" in El Salvador it was announced earlier today by Enot Rubio, President of the Committee Salvadoran "El Piche".

The Salvadoran Committee "El Piche" kicked off its fundraising campaign towards the construction of the "Mauricio Cienfuegos Sports Complex" in La Union, El Salvador. In attendance at the press conference were Salvadoran Consulate General Oscar Benavides, Liborios Market Owner Enrique Alejo and L.A. Galaxy Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Whit Haskel.

Once completed this 1,000 person facility will benefit 14 surrounding communities, which have donated the lot on which the center will be built. The sports complex will be equipped with a regulation size soccer field, locker rooms, track and field, field lights and a sprinkler system. The cost of the facility is $50,000 donated by local businesses and fans in Los Angeles.

"We are very pleased to do our part in helping the people of El Salvador with the building of the Mauricio Cienfuegos Sports Complex," said Whit Haskel, Senior Director of Marketing and Communications. "Mauricio is a dedicated player whose efforts to help people off the field makes him an integral part of the Los Angeles Galaxy. We congratulate him on this tribute."

The initiative to construct the "Mauricio Cienfuegos Sport Complex" was the idea of the Salvadoran Committee "El Piche" which is run by Enot Rubio, who will utilize donations from local businesses and fans. The L.A. Galaxy is supporting the project by donating tickets for the Galaxy's upcoming doubleheader at the Rose Bowl on September 14, 2002. The WUSA's Philadelphia Charge vs. San Diego Spirit match will kickoff at 5:00pm, and will be followed by the Galaxy's final home regular season match vs. the San Jose Earthquakes at 8:00pm.

"It' a great honor to have a sports complex named after me in El Salvador," said Mauricio Cienfuegos. "I am grateful to all those who are participating in this project. It's a real privilege for me and I hope that the complex will be enjoyed by all the youth, a place were they can play soccer, the main sport in El Salvador."

The general public is invited to participate in this tax-deductible donation of $50.00; and in exchange will receive two tickets for the September 14th game, a t-shirt with a photo of Cienfuegos and a $5.00 certificate for Liborios Market. The participants will also have their name on a plaque at the "Mauricio Cienfuegos Sports Complex".

"This facility will benefit fourteen communities in the Department of the Union whose closes sports facility is more than 25 miles away," said Enot Rubio.
