Well, no [R] yet, obviously.

There's speculation in other threads about what Rongen's line-up will be. For purposes of reference/discussion, the line-ups used so far have been:

Vs Brazil
1-Steve Cronin;
4-Chefik Simo, 5-Ryan Cochrane, 14-Chad Marshall, 8-C.J. Klaas
3-Justin Mapp, 11-Ricardo Clark, 10-Ned Grabavoy, 15-David Johnson
13-Devin Barclay, 7-Eddie Johnson.

2-Jordan Stone, 41 (for Mapp)
17-Raul Palomares, 64 (for Grabavoy)
20-Mike Magee, 74 (for Simo)

Subs not used: 6-Jordan Harvey, 12-Chris Lancos, 16-Knox Cameron, 18-Ford Williams, 19-Mike Ambersley, 21-Craig Capano.

Vs Italy
1-Steve Cronin
4-Chefik Simo, 5-Ryan Cochrane, 14-Chad Marshall, 8-C.J. Klaas
3-Justin Mapp, 11-Ricardo Clark, 10-Ned Grabavoy, 15-David Johnson
13-Devin Barclay, 7-Ed Johnson

Subs not used: 2-Jordan Stone, 6-Jordan Harvey, 12-Chris Lancos, 16-Knox Cameron, 17-Raul Palomares, 18-Ford Williams, 19-Mike Ambersley, 20-Mike Magee, 21-Craig Capano.

Vs Ukraine
18-Ford Williams
4-Chefik Simo, 6-Jordan Harvey, 12-Chris Lancos, 8-C.J. Klaas
21-Craig Capano, 2-Jordan Stone, 17-Raul Palomares, 19-Mike Ambersley
20-Mike Magee, 16-Knox Cameron

14-Chad Marshall, 41 (for Simo)
15-David Johnson, 41 (for Klaas)

Subs not used: 1-Steve Cronin, 3-Justin Mapp, 5-Ryan Cochrane, 7-Ed Johnson, 10-Ned Grabavoy, 11-Ricardo Clark, 13-Devin Barclay.

Vs Uruguay
1-Steve Cronin
4-Chefik Simo, 5-Ryan Cochrane, 14-Chad Marshall, 8-C.J. Klaas
3-Justin Mapp, 11-Ricardo Clark, 10-Ned Grabavoy, 15-David Johnson
13-Devin Barclay , 7-Ed Johnson

16-Knox Cameron, 79 (for Ed Johnson)
2-Jordan Stone, 81+ (for Clark)

Subs not used: 6-Jordan Harvey, 12-Chris Lancos, 17-Raul Palomares, 18-Ford Williams, 19-Mike Ambersley, 20-Mike Magee, 21-Craig Capano.

So the same line-up has started three of the four. Barclay is out on cards, so Magee would appear to be taking his place.

The relevant questions would seem to be:

Can the other 10 all start another game on one day's rest?

Will Rongen want to throw something different at Brazil than he did the first time around?

Did anyone (besides) Magee impress enough in the Ukraine game to merit a starting role today?

Does Rongen want to see more of any of the players in order to make his decisions for qualifying in November?

Rongen will have to answer several questions:

Do I risk injuring some of my starters because tired players are more prone to injury?

Do I need to get one last look at several players who have had limited playing time?

Do I try and give Brazil a different look?

His line-up will answer all of these questions.

Any idea when kickoff is? Any live internet coverage?

(I expect not.)

I do expect, however, for Rongen to go with largely the same lineup he used in the games that mattered (i.e., everything other than Ukraine, which results was the closest thing we've had in this tournament to a foregone conclusion), with Magee in for Barclay. I'd be surprised if he went a different route.

I sense he's a little like Clive Charles, circa Sydney, in that respect: finds his horses, and rides 'em all the way to the finish line -- or the cliff, whatever comes first.

DHeck - Why aren't Simek and Whitbred included in the subs lists? Just curious what role these phantom players are even filling over there...

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I don't think they are really there. They were not in the USSF press release and were only of the tournament site. I think they would have played some if they were truly with the team.

I don't know about Whitbread, but Simek said Arsenal would not release him as he had an injury.

Simek is definitely not there, as others have posted.

I seriously doubt Whitbread is there either, but don't know that for certain. I believe Rongen invited them and probably submitted their names on preliminary rosters that were posted and linked here. Nothing I have seen since the tournament started indicates that Whitbread is there. He started on the 24th for Liverpool's U-19s, and in fact, he could be playing with Liverpool's reserves right now against Bradford City reserves.

May even be over by now, since they're playing 40 min. halves. Nothing yet on the tournament web site or on ussoccer.com

The game should be over now. It was starting at 9:30 Spanish time if I read the military time correctly.

If fourth place in the Olympics (Charles) and the finals of a competitive tournament in his first outing (Rongen) are cliffs, going over them doesn't sound all that bad.

"Despite being shutout for the first time in the tournament, the U.S. was still the highest scoring team in the competition with 11 goals in five games."

I'm impressed.

And our leading goal scorer sat for two games!

Did you really expect him to play four or five games in a row?

A damn good run for the boys losing out to only the best team in the world.

Shades of a segment of posters supporting an L. Donovan circa 1999-2001 (the Olympics come to mind especially).

Don't worry, the world is not out to get the boy. He probably got himself a contract with his four-bagger.

Magee also missed a lot of time with the U20's in is pursuit of a club in Europe. I think this is why he wasn't in Houston.

From what I've read, he is the leading scorer for the U20's this year, though Barclay may challenge him. It be nice if US Soccer were to update their website with info like this.

If he can hook up again with Chicago Fire for training, or better yet sign a MLS contract and train with another club, he should be fine come November. He may not start in Charleston, but he will be in the squad.

If the situation is the same as it was for Donovan with Charles and it turns out the same, I'll be happy. Well could have Magee, Donovan, Wolff, and say Twellman as forwards (just to name a few) in 2006. If Magee scores two goals at his first World Cup, I'll be happy.
