I realize this is a ridiculous longshot, but it turns out that an upcoming trip I'm taking to Costa Rica will include the day of the US-Mex game, and I don't want to miss it. I'm going to be in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, so if anyone's been there and can recommend a sports bar or has any thoughts, I'd appreciate it mucho.

In the likely event that no one has knowledge about this specific town, how 'bout general knowledge about finding soccer broadcasts in latin America. On the one hand, I suppose the general interest in the sport suggests that the game will be televised everywhere, especially due to the presence of two regional rivals. On the other hand, it's just a friendly and I presume Costa Rica will be involved in an international game on that day as well, so that may make it impossible to find a bar that's showing the game.

A friend of mine who posts here is from Costa Rica. His username is Liguista. Do a search and ask him.

Hey man, Liguista here. I lived in CR for 22 years. The part of the country you are going to is beautiful, but I'm unaware of what kind of facilities they have in Manuel Antonio (or Quepos) for viewing an international game. But I can say this, try to find/stay at a hotel (or find a bar) that has DirecTV (I don't think they have cable out there yet). Then ask if you can watch Telemundo for a couple of hours. If the owner of the establishment is Costa Rican there is nothing more he'd like to see than Mexico losing... That being said, there might be a good possiblity that they will air it on national television. For that you'll just have to make sure what channel, and find a TV.

If the hotel doesn't show it, I think I'll head into Quepos and keep my fingers crossed that someone's got access to it. I'm psyched to hear that the Costarriquenos and I will both be rooting against the same side. Thanks a lot for the info Liguista--I'll post after I get back if I have anything interesting to report abotu watching US-Mex in CR.
