One of my favorite shows, Fastlane, was cancelled a while back. Someone is selling DVD-R copies of the entire first season. Can someone tell me what this means, and if it'll work on a normal DVD player. Does anyone have an experience purchasing something similar? Thanks.

It may work on your DVD player. Go hit www.dvdrhelp.com and search for your DVD player on the "DVD Players" link. It should tell you what disc formats your player can read.

Mine, for example, can read DVD-R format, but not DVD+R.

Has anyone ever bought a bootleg? Obviously what this guy is doing is probably not legal.

Recording to DVD-R should be no less legal than recording on a video tape.

Selling them, however, is where it gets illegal.

Pretty much any DVD player will play DVD-R these days, as long as you didn't but it at WalMart for twenty-five bucks. And even then, some of them will still play that format.

But you have a computer, obviously. You can play them on your computer if your DVD player doesn't play them.

I got told never to do that as it can stuff up your DVD player, and besides that, the quality can be a bit dodgy.
