It's from Goff's blogs, which links to the WRC story on Tino's recovery from addiction that was on this evening's local news.

For every good story, there is an equally bad one.

yeah, I guess I can blame the drugs on him being a Yankees fan, it seems to fit :)
I have no problems with him hating the skins, I mean who doesn't :) Baltimore is a more honest team, I hadn't thought of it that way. They have better colors, and a much less racist logo too.
I tivo'd the 5:00 news last night and watched the piece when I got home. good job.

Me, me, me!!
Baltimore is a more honest team
I don't know what that means. Maybe you just like them more?
They have better colors
Disagree completely. They're better in the way that the teal and black color scheme for teams is 'better' - it's newer. That's what happens with teams that lack tradition.
and a much less racist logo too.
No arguments here.

Newer? How about different from what the existing NFL teams have used. It's not as if burgundy and gold are older colors than purple and black. All that talk of tradition is dubious, given our city's rich tradition in the sport.

I don't know what that means. Maybe you just like them more?I'm not sure if I like them more, or like the redskins less :)
I guess more blue-collar is more what I meant by "honest", less sizzle, more hard work, and they seem to value their community more in my mind. That may be due to being newer too, who knows.
I have never liked the skins, so maybe that clouds everything else :)
But my two fav. teams are Seattle and Oakland, so what do I know (except disappointment) :)

Especially since he's from Baltimore, it is easy to give him a pass on the Redskin stuff. I don't have any problem with Baltimore people supporting their team however warped their vision of the franchise is.
"Not a Wizards fan either, bro," he said. Double dagger.
I can even let this go. The Wizards haven't shown much the past season with Gil out and they don't try to take over other markets. The Wizards and several NBA teams are content promoting the league and individuals as much as individual teams. It is easier to stay relevant and cover more territory that way. The Wizards don't pretend to be the Baltimore Bullets or something that represents the greater Baltimore-Washington region."I'm a Yankees fan," he said. Dagger. Ok, the NBA?
...
Ok.
What the ********?
Was he possessed by Lebron James? Throw all that Baltimore boy, hard-working shit out the window. You can't take that stance on everything and be a hypocrite regarding the Orioles and Yankees. Even if you throw Angelos under the bus, you won't get a pass for being a Yankees fan in Baltimore. In the interest of preserving community-team relations, I will withhold the quotes about how Quaranta thinks D.C. is too much of a transient place, and how he's proud that a few teammates have started to embrace Baltimore, with Louis Crayton even moving there. He's gone too far now. Every time I read that, I have to step away from the computer and take some time to breathe. If he weren't wearing the Black and Red highlights...

Newer IS different. Purple and black is a modern color scheme, as is teal and black. An older look would be the purple and white of the old Vikings.
All that talk of tradition is dubious, given our city's rich tradition in the sport.
I'm assuming you're referring to the Colts' tradition as one of the original NFL teams, but the Ravens are new and have relatively little tradition. The Colts left under cover of darkness, taking their records with them.
Back to Santino, I wouldn't expect any player to not root for his hometown clubs.

They do have Ray Lewis playing for their team, though, so it averages out.
I can't stand either team at this point. Which is probably for the best -- if I did like either team, it'd be another thing to spend money on.

I mostly agree, although I never had a favorite hockey team so what the hell--go Caps. :p

Purple and black are colors, there is no "modern" about it. If I could be arsed ( :) ) I would do some research on heraldic banners featuring violet and black. Apparently, Fiorentina wore black and purple in the 50s, so maybe they ripped it off from them.

I'm talking about the city of Baltimore and its football tradition. The people of the Indianapolis region don't share any of the history that the drunk asshole packed up in a moving truck and brought with him.

Are you in a particularly bad mood or something? You're trying to be obtuse. Obviously there are no new colors. However, there are definitely new color schemes, and the look of the Ravens and the Panthers is definitely more modern than something like the Browns or Penn State, for example.

Perhaps. I was talking about the NFL, though, so if you want to spend time looking for a teal and black uniform color scheme from the 40s, have at it.

Fine. I was talking about the team's tradition. I don't think the DC area's tradition of soccer with the Diplomats attaches in any way to the tradition of DC United. I think the same holds true for the Ravens.

I was probably just responding to your slightly pejorative tone.

Mea culpa. A two-hour visit to the dentist will do that to me every time. (Can't remember the last time I've had this much fun!)
My apologies for the tone.
(And, in the interest of full disclosure, much as I love good defense, i can't stand the Ravens...)
