Would this make Gavin Glinton available for the Canadian National Team?
The Turks & Caicos used to have an igloo on their flag (a colonial flagmaker mistook a pile of salt for an igloo and added a doorway), so they would fit right in.

This looks suspiciously like one of those Ailton-Qatar deals. Shouldn't the entire population of Turks & Caicos have to live in Canada for at least two years? Or at least be able to name half the roster of the Maple Leafs?

Mabye they should be able to name at least two other provinces. Is that really true about the Igloo? That is really funny if so.
Mabye the players would have to spend time in a freezer like the guy from Cool Running. I think his name was Sanka Coffie.
Here's a picture--it's small but look at the pile of salt on the right.

I never would have tought a tropical island would have a igloo on their flag that is just cool.
Anyone know if there are any other decent players on te Turks and Caicos NT that could make the move to the Canadian team?
Is there any sort of precident for this? What would FIFA do?

On the Federations website they have this posted:
http://www.football.tc/CONTACT/Press/callingtci.htm
They are trying to locate any player, age 13 and over who is a citizen of Turks and Caicos living in the world.
"If you are a Turks & Caicos Islander playing soccer overseas and feel you have the ability to represent your country in the above competitions, please contact the TCIFA immediately. We would also like to hear from any youth player, 13 years or older. We would like to record your details in our database so that going forward you could be contacted to represent your country in the above competitions."
I could switch nationality if they really need me to!

Duane Glinton is listed as a sophmore in 2002 at Bradley. He is not on the 2003 nor 2004 team.

It appers that he was a starter as a sophmore and scored a few goals. But he drops off the face of the earth in 2003.

This is a good read, but a little long about the WCQ adventure of the Turks and Caicos:

BTW- according to this, Duane was training with the Earthquakes.

Two precedents, both involving Germany:
1. 1938: Austria team players join and make up half of Germany team after spring Anschuss takeover of Austria. But, there was no "capped" rule then.
2. 1994 and After: previous East Germany players play for united Germany team. I don't know if there had to even be a ruling for this, or situations around the same time when East European countires split up (ie: Crotatia, Slovakia).
The FIFA General Regulations allow for exception to capped rule for "political developments".

This issue of the T&C's joining Canada crops up every now and then since the 1960's, and nothing comes from it. It likely wouldn't now for various reasons:
1. Canada has little to gain from it. The idea that some of the extra tourism money from Canada would trickle back to Canada is dubious economics. and the costs of maintaining a required federal infrastructure there would be very high.
2. For security and crime reasons it would be a nightmare for Canada, due to closeness of drug pipeline fron Latinamerica and closeness to Haiti and Dominican republic(with their own massive crime and "refugees"...an open invitation for boat people less than 10% of the distance from Florida).
3. There would be both formal and informal objections from the Carribean Community because of the appearance of neo-colonialism (caricom has already expressed reservations). Canada cares about such things.
4. Altough they are mostly very pragmatic, there are "Pan-African" sentiments of amny of the islanders that would make attachment to a large white nation an anathama.
5. How do you define an islander for purposes of grafting on Canadian citizenship? There willl be all kinds of nouveau TC's popping out of the woodwork all over.
6. Quebec would strongly object to the political and constitutional aspects (Parlimentary representation, constitutional ammending formula, etc) of adding another anglo province. It's not worth risking upsetting the overburdened applecart of Canadian confederation.
The positives would be increased tourists for T&C (altho it may make it less attractive to Europeans, their main customers now, or others, both to image and as to visitor visas, and would be somewhat offset by it no longer being an offshore tax haven) and a "neat" concept for Canadians to carry around. How many Canadians would actually go there is questionable...most Canadians have not even been to the four Atlantic provinces. And, we can already go to a whole host of southsea destinations very easily with no visas.
In short, neat idea, but it will never happen.

Bringing in T&C as a territory would be much simpler. Allowing them to keep most of their laws and customs would also help.
