According to Stevic and Lienen, any new signings will be at left back. I guess they do not hold out hope Benny S. will be back anytime soon.:(
That and again, there's no guarantee he's going to be what you think he's going to be.

He was shaping up to a Marcel Schaefer or Christian Traesch or Fabian Johnson before his injury. Now? I would agree with you.

Then Stevic goes on about the connection between twins and how when one is injured the other one is also not 100% (good lord, he believes this?).
Too funny. I think Stevic has seen "The Corsican Brothers" a few too many times... :D

He showed that kind of potential. He wasn't there yet.
Hell, FJ isn't "there" yet........
Now? I would agree with you.
It just takes you awhile to see reason when it comes to Sechzig talents. LOL!! ;) :D

Kenny gives the versitility of a target forward that can play like a midfielder and knows how to slow the counter and create chances.
I am sure others have differing or more educated opinions and comments...
I have the 'differing' part down, but I am pretty sure my opinions and comments do not qualify as 'more educated'. That being said.....
No, no, no - Kenny is NOT a target forward. He looks like one because of his size, but his nose for the goal is based on his ability to create chances by taking the ball and working with his team mates (like a midfielder as you say). I don't think I am expressing this very well, but he does not play with his back to goal waiting for the ball - he likes to be more involved in the run of play, helping his team create and defend.
One thing that is certain - Kenny scores goals.
TSV picked up four "Sturmer" in the transfer market in including Cooper, Lushtaku, Djokaj (TuS Koblenz) and Pappas. Midfield acquisitions Lovin and Johnson will provide more balance on the endline and tend to play better off of defensive rolls.
Lovin? Where did they get Lovin from? (I'm thinking of Lovin from Romania's Steaua Bucharest)
Lienen can be a bit "Prussian" in his manner and dictates. He sees what he sees on the training pitch and likes experience over youth to start the season.
In a sense, this was an initial worry with Kenny Cooper. However, Kenny has a tough skin, ability to focus, listens and observes which will stand him well with Ewald. This trait comes from the uncompromising manner which Kenny, Sr. brought him up and trained him.
More then likely, Lauth and the others are going to have more sway and influence then Lienen as the key players are keen to get into or back to the Bundesliga. As long as Kenny is helping them, they are going to work with and help him adjust and succeed.
I think this will be a win / win because of Kenny's strong mentality and desire to turn this chance into gold!
Woody - I have to give respect to you here as you obviously know what of you speak.
By the way, Kenny's younger brother, Joe, is coming along in a 2 or 3 years...

TZ is reporting (http://www.tz-online.de/sport/fussball/tsv-1860/tz-kenny-cooper-debuet-in-gefahr-431582.html?cmp=defrss) that Cooper, based on the interview response from Lienen today, may only dress out for the match.
München - Newcomer Kenny Cooper was in training on Tuesday for the first time since arriving at 1860 - "at 0300 in the morning", stated Trainer Lienen.
Many of his highly skilled talent Kenny could not show off at his long awaited first training session on the Grünwalder Strasse. Walking and passing practice was prescribed, shooting training was not on the program.
The new striker from the US could just grin and bear it. "The boy first needs time to adjust", said Ewald Lienen and further: „So early in the morning has Kenny never before in his life done. When we began it was 0300 in the morning for him…“
But woke up he did and got his first full impressions of Muenchen. The training grounds he found "phenominal", and many things were "very nice". Of his team mates, who played on Saturday against Koblenz and was his first time watching them.
Lienen: „I cannot say right now whether Kenny will be on the roster or play at all. It is my wish, natually, but it could also be that he does not. We will have to seen from day to day if everything is there. I need to observe him over the next few days.
But first and foremost is he pleased that "Cooper is here". Also many fans were at training on Tuesday to get a glimpse of the Ameircan. Said Lienen, "It is still better if the Americans come, rather than the Russians, no?" [An old German phrase from after the war regarding the preference of being liberated by a particular side:D]. No question the Trainer finds himself in high form. A reporter wanted to find out the name of Kenny's girlfriend. Kenny looked at Lienen and asked, "Is it a good idea to answer?“ Lienen: „I don’t think so. The next he wants to know is her telephone number.“

I still want to see him when Sechzig is winning 5-1 and I've got a good buzz going.
I'm going to try to get our group to chant "USA" for him. :-)
We'll be in the lower level of the AA on the side the two teams sit on, but on the visiting club's bench side.

Dude, is that "literal translation" from an engine or are you in deep "Yoda Mode?"

And he will see that The Force is strong in this one....... ;)
But first and foremost is he pleased that "Cooper is here". Also many fans were at training on Tuesday to get a glimpse of the American.
And I'll bet the girls were going wild. LOL!!

Yeah. I first heard that from my ex-wife's grandparents. He'd been captured by the Russians and somehow "liberated" from them by us.
Thanks to that, I was always OK in his book.

Now, I love Sechzig and all, but Gruenwalder Str.? "Very nice?" It's not bad, but it could surely use some polish.
And someone could stand to get rid of the ivy growing on Gruenwalder Stadion. LOL

LOL....Lienen is a funny guy actually. He cracked a few jokes at the PK. But he can also be a real viper too.

You should chant "Kenny,Kenny...."
And yeah, you know, I find that when I need to translate stuff fast I sound more like Sgt. Schultz. Must be age. Hell, I was on a conference call yesterday and I was stumbling to find the english words for a few things....hte german words came just fine, thank you. Dunno why.

to be honest, when you compare GW strasse with PHP here in TX, PHP is really state of the art. I think when he travels a bit and sees how some other club facilites are he will change his superlatives. Also, when he plays in the AA for the first time will blow his mind.
But again, remember, the guy played for the USMNT and has seen some seriously nice stadia in the US too.

I am not in love with the idea of Sechzig playing in the AA, that is clear. But it is an impressive facility, for sure. I loved it.

The article on the 1860 website (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/news/2009/news_2009-08-05_cooper.php) is just a rehash of several of the quotes from the press conference yesterday already translated. I will translate a few of the new ones:
Lienen: "He is an all-rounder in attack and brings exactly the skills that we have been looking for."
Stevic: "When players want to develop their career, the personal aspects play a very important role."
Cooper, about ManUre: "I had the opportunity to train with some of the best players in world. I profited by this a great deal."
Lienen, about the liklihood of Cooper playing Sunday: "He must get over the 7 hour time difference in order to really feel like himself. That can take time."
One thing that was clear from Lienen's responses, he plans on protecting Kenny's debut from the unreasonable expectations the press and some fans are putting on Kenny. He really wants this to work out from Day 1. I would not be surprised if he kept KC on the bench until the last 15 mins. If 1860 is winning by alot, he might go in earlier. If it is close or 1860 is losing, I doubt he will put him in and risk connecting KC with a bad game.
IMHO, he gains nothing and risks much by forcing himself to put KC in. Better to let the guy aclimate and then start in the first away match than to pres and press him into service just to have a home debut.
