Ugly Europeans too....as soon as I posted in the German forum that fight and heart were trademarks of the US playing style, some effete Eurosnob had to make an "all Americans like war" comment. The mods quickly put this moron down. One guy (a Bavarian I know) wrote: "Perhaps you would like Hitler back?":p:cool:

Don't call that guy a "Eurosnob". I am a proud "Eurosnob" when it comes to the game of football.

That guy was an "a$$hole". Or a "stupid a$$hole". Take your pick.

Interview here (http://www.eyep.tv/beitrag/2-bundesliga/video/geburtstags-loewe-benny-lauth.html). Brief translation:

How's the leg? Ift feels pretty good. I took a knock in the ankle during the game in Paderborn but there is no swelling and no pain, so I sould be okay for Sunday.
What is the atmosphere about the coming season? The euphoria of a new season is there but I think the team is prepared to work hard and get results.
There are a lot of new players on the team, how are you guys working out communication, etc? I think it is going okay, we understand each other but there are naturally times when things are not optimal but we are working on that and I think it is coming along fine.
Now that your are Captain what is your goal or is there a different set of priorities and in previous years? whether one is captain or not the primary objective is to be in one of the top places in the league. For me I want to make sure that we are not flat, that everyone is happy and that we play as a team.
The team has had many new players come, most recently an attacker. Are you happy with the additions that have been made? Yes I think the additions to the team give us more alternatives and that is important. Addtionally it is important that we have picked up another striker.
Kiraly had a great game against Paderborn. How important is it that all new players have a similar impact when they play? In the keeper position is this always important. It is always a boost when you can take a close game like that and come away with a win. In that matter was it important for him [Kiraly] to accomplish that.
You have waited for a strike partner like Schroth for a while, how do the options you have now look? Yes, that has always escaped us lately but Mlapa is a young, strong striker; and Kenny has much experience and has a large stature which should serve him well.

I just don't read the shit. How some people have jobs in the US "game" and how some people are paid "journalists" has always been beyond me.

Did I mention I am looking for a new job?

;)

Yeah I know. There is some guy on the YA Kenny thread arguing that MLS has the right to keep the 10% player fee normally paid to players during a transfer but ManU had no right to ASK for certain monies when they were SELLING Cooper years ago. Thankfully, 1860 increased the personal terms of the contract to account for this.....and you guys KNOW we do not have the $$$ to splash around, so I am sure Kenny Sr. appreciated that.

I am trying to figure out exactly when the US mindset became a welfare mentality?

yeah, that really pisses me off. What would be nice is if they at least gave that 10% to the other players on his team who aren't making $50k a year. Help them with apartments, food, cars, etc.

Wanted to add a comment on Kenny Cooper, Sr.'s comments in YA this morning and how spot on he is in many aspects concerning MLS and some areas that I have disagreements (not many).
MLS has always treated the players as second class citizens in respect to the status of the league. This trickles down from the USSF as well though much has come from the previous history of the financial failures of professional football in the U.S.

Yes, the league has great ownership and increased ability to provide soccer specific stadiums with realistic capacities, a reasonable entertainment value and a acute focus on keeping costs in line with revenues. The business side is very strong. However, they do not recognize and pay top talent on a reasonable par to their finances. This is why talent like Troy Perkin's goes overseas to Norway where he earns the equivalent of $350,000 per season. D.C. United had him on a developmental contract of $16K (he was going to school and working a part-time job to get by) and bumped him to $48K as he won the starting role. You can't live on that in D.C. He was gone as soon as he was able. Do you blame him?

The denial or "bribery" of securing the 10% portion of a transfer fee that nominally goes to the player is WRONG! It's the player's skill that got him the interest, not MLS. When the rare player shows the caliber of talent to be acquired, he should reap a reward that is the standard accommodation.

The fact that TSV had to up the personal terms to compensate for MLS' greed is a travesty and criminal. This is another reason why German (and European sides in general) do not like dealing with MLS. The facts remain that over hyped pre-madonnas like Freddy Adu get the attention, then fizzle do to their inability to understand the training ground work ethic.
The only exception to this has been Altidore's trials in Europe, which is forcing a hard working player to ride pine with a team that hasn't got a clue on their future direction or player development. I guarantee that Altidore's work ethic would be welcome in Germany and he would be contributing in a more meaningful manner.

Here is where I disagree with Mr. Cooper:

He implies there is a bevy of talent being held back by MLS. That simply is not the case. I refer to LD's comments about the differences in the Bundesliga training grounds, focus and abundance of talent between the first and reserve sides. That is not the case here. As LD noted (I loath quoting the little prick - however, he had a valid point) there are only 2-5 quality players per MLS side. In most cases they are the foreign players, not the domestic talent.

The current MLS - U.S. players I would consider of overseas potential would include:
Robbie Rogers, Chad Marshall and William Hesmer - Columbus Crew
Sacha Kljestan, Jonathan Bornstein - LA Chivas
Ricardo Clark, Stuart Holden - Houston Dynamo
Marvell Wynne- Toronto FC
Kyle Beckerman - Real Salt Lake
Landon Donovan-LA Galaxy

There are several young players in the hopper that are being actively scouted. If they have talent potential and are realistic to pursuing an overseas career, they need to go prior to or earlier than entering the NCAA or MLS ranks. The less involvement with MLS, the better as far as overseas clubs are concerned. Players like Conor Casey, Steve Cherundolo, Jay DeMerit, Luis Robles, Jonathan Spector and Zak Whitebread didn't start in MLS.

Had to vent . . .

Woody

Bornstein - I'm not sold on this guy. He had a couple of good games for the nats, but other than that he's a liability.

Wynne - should have gone over when Benny left. Has he learned how to cross yet?

Beckerman - always liked his game, he's getting old now, so that might keep him out of Europe.

The video is here (http://www.eyep.tv/beitrag/2-bundesliga/video/kenny-cooper-der-allrounder.html). There is not much to translate. :D If you hear "Nuke" LaLoosh you would be right. :D Bet this is the only PK that is in English.

I LOVE the question about the difference between MLS and European footy.
Love the prominent blue shirt!!!
I bet this guy learns German in no time....BING....advert for Rosetta Stone. "Hey Kenny, you just got bought by 1860 and are flying to Germany, what's the first thing you bought?" "I bought Rosetta Stone at the airport!!"
Does he communicate on the pitch? Hell yeah, I have heard him 26 rows up for three years.
Is the girlfriend coming? ROFL...if YOU were his girlfriend would YOU take a 3 year holiday to Germany? I might turn gay for such a vacation.
LOL...Stevic said he only understood about 60% of what was said.
I love how Germans think 6'3" is tall and he should ahve beena basketball player.

Just had to throw that in there.

I'm still pissed off at MLS. I can't even watch a game now - after I wasted $80 for the package because the games are so bad.

Dude, the only reason I intend to see Pizza Hut Park when I get back there is the opportunity to drink beers with Garry!!

Buying an MLS package in the future has never crossed my mind.

But "Lowen TV" is a freakin' superb offer! :D

I think he was being purposefully "inclusive" to avoid looking like it was the Kenny Hates MLS Hour.

That's what I think. Throw a little praise their way whether they deserve it or not.

I think that's class.

But I still had to rep "Woody's" post.

It was overall AWESOMENESS........ :D

I agree with what woody (I believe) said earlier... Stuart Holden is one of the next Americans to come over. Truth be told, he would look great in a Loewen trikot as well.

Du bist schon!:o

Guess in retrospect there is validity to being "politically correct" (another term or item I loath) and I've known Kenny Sr.for many years from his days in Dallas, the ASL and coaching the Baltimore Blast in it's many differing indoor league forms. He is a class act and Jr. doesn't fall far from the tree. Wish there were more like them.

Cheers . . . Woody

At the 6-0 on Sat the most un-nerving thing was watching the utter lack of creativity by BOTH teams and the innane insistance on passing flat to the player, rather than using lead passes of space creating passes. The ONLY high points were the two goals scored on leading passes which were run onto for goals. Other than that it was a snooze fest. A 6-0 snoozefest. I have been to 0-0 draws that were more exciting.

Buying an MLS package in the future has never crossed my mind.
And bier we shall drink. There is a great irish pub across the street from the stadium and, if we get too drunk, a new hotel stumbling distance from the grounds....and a decent BBQ joint along the way. I have drawn a map here (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll=33.152966,-96.834489&spn=0.001347,0.001709&t=h&z=19&msid=110535863338356066291.0004705268db630929c5c) to show our stumbling route.
