WTF? It seems that if a player either used to play at 1860 or if 1860 was interested in a player, Augsburg goes to get them!
TuS Koblenz midfielder Goran Sukalo has been sold to Augsburg and he signed a two-year deal there.
Of course, Sukalo had been linked with Sechzig since just before the end of last season......

Sechzig has the squad they need to make the push to 1.BL. No need to worry.
*sigh*

Oh, Sukalo is no great loss. It just amazes me that so much of the time someone is linked with 1860, he winds up with Augsburg.

Any theory as to why that is? Or just merely coincidence?

They are signing players out of spite

I'm not too upset over the Johnson transfer, since he was on the way out anyway, and usually wing players are the easiest to replace.
So, will Stevic then go after another player?
Or are the "management" team going to make a run for the Swiss border with the cash? :D

Everytime I see Russ post, I suddenly crave an Augustiner Helles. Why is that, I wonder? LOL

I guess I'm spoiled. I'm tired of that shit.
It seems that's the only beer most Americans around here know.
When I go to parties here, I take a cooler full of Paulaner, H-P and a couple of national brands because all they have is damned Augustiner Helles! LOL!! ;)
I meet the Germans at the pub. LOL!!

Hacker Pschorr would be my next choice...
As an aside, no one likes a smartass, footy... ;)
I am just jealous is all. I cannot wait to get back over the land of Helles und Weissbier.

Guess who is a "consultant" for them right now?

They just signed Camdal from the U19s...a good move to secure him. He is a Gerhart in the rough.
They will keep Mlapa too and they are bringing up Sandro Kaiser. I hear Biancucchi got his pass so he may get some time in the profi Kader too.
I think Lovin is a target, as well as perhaps one other striker.

I would say the man is earning his living by being an effective football consultant. The fact he gets to screw Stevic is a bonus.

So let me just throw this out there then... And this is for everyone...
What are your thoughts on the club from a player personnel standpoint as we get closer to the start of the term?

Well, I can only go on what I know of some of these players, having not seen some of them before. I will note which ones those are....and will note likely starters in blue.
TW:
1 Gabor Kiraly: I HOPE he does well, but as you can see they did not send Michi to the U23s as planned....and likely for a good reason.
12 Philipp Tschauner: I think people are hoping he either 1) asks for a transfer or 2) leaves on his own given he has a contract through 2011.
25 Michael Hofmann: Love the man and glad to see him on the first team. My guess is he beats Tschauner for the #2 job and if Kiraly f's up sees even more net time.
ABWEHR
2 Antonio Rukavina: Should be a rock on the right. I hope he continues is healthy run and shows even more promise for 1860.
4 Torben Hoffmann: Will likely be used as a utlity guy in defense as needed. With Felhi likely to be out up to 4 weeks in international duty at the Africa Cup (who has a Cup 9 months before the WM????), he may see even more time in the middle.
5 Radhouène Felhi: Have not seen him play but by all accounts he is fitting in nicely in his defensive lead role. If he truly is out for 4 weeks at some point this fall he will be missed. Health and temperment in this position are key.
6 Mathieu Beda: Lord knows why Lienen is putting him back at central defense. This is a HUGE mistake. Like Torben, I suspect he will be used as a sub, albeit before Torben since he has a longer contract. My guess is performance will show him to be the mediocre player he really is.
13 Florian Jungwirth: He will likely be used on the left until Schwarz is healthy again. He's a tough player, like Ledgerwood, but not as good as Schwarz.
19 Mate Ghvinianidze: 1860 has much invested in him and *IF* he stays healthy he will perform well. He has a contract through 2010 or 2011 I think, so he should be safe...though given his injuries not sure many would come calling for him if he were free.
23 Benjamin Schwarz: Should be a no-brainer for outside left but will not be until fully ready. Rumor is Holebas will be filling in here...not a good omen for Jungwirth if Lienen feels he needs to convert a midfielder to defense to cover. If Benny gets healthy he will be the next Traesch, Schaefer or Schick. If not, he will end his career.
MITTELFELD
7 Daniel Bierofka: Still injured, but if he comes back he will be a natural on the left.
8 Aleksandar Ignjovski: Have not seen him play but I hear they are looking for him to step into the #6 position or take Sven's spot.
10 Sascha Rösler: Lazy. He reminds me of Gascoigne. He works when HE wants to and no further than HE wants to. I cannot fathom him seeing too much time unless inuries force it.
14 José Holebas: At midfield he will be a wing sub. My guess is he will see a defensive role before he see regular time at midfield.
15 Stefan Aigner: Rumor has it that if Pappas is moved to striker then Aigner has the outside role. IF they sign another striker, then Aigner hits the bench and Papps takes the outside slot along with Ludwig. Will start him on the right until I see another striker....I mean non-teen striker signed.
18 Alexander Ludwig: Starter on the right flank. He appears to be talented and a leader. Should be interesting to see him play.
20 Tarik Camdal: Back-up for outside midfield, but can play central as well. Likely to be used as a sub. Recently signed from U19 team to the profi team, totally skipping the U23 team. He will likely get U23 time if he does not suit up for the pros.
21 Sandro Kaiser: Same as Camdal, though Sandro is more of striker than a midfielder. He was brought up rather than Mathais Fetsch, which I think is a mistake. Fetsch has more to offer but is seen as Wolf's boy.
22 Lars Bender: Will be used at the #8 position until he leaves next year. I imagine they will groom Camdal to take that role when he leaves.
ANGRIFF
9 Antonio Di Salvo: Sub fodder if he stays at all. Rumor is he will be swapped with Lovin if possible.
11 Benjamin Lauth: Will start as long as he can walk.
17 Charilaos Pappas: Unless they come up with another strike option, he will start up front with Benny.
26 Peniel Kokou Mlapa: A U23 striker who did not get a whole bunch of time down there, he was brought up by Lienen. I think he is a "project" for Ewald. I would say he is much like Schaeffler: has potential but does not often realize it.
27 Manuel Schäffler: You guys know how I feel about him. I hope this is his year. I think he will see sub roles unless 1860 fail to bring on a new striker. He is well thought of by Lienen, but seen as needing more time.
That's 10 starters. I left the last one off because am not sure about last minute transfers. My guess is Holebas will be the left back starting for a while. We still are light in a few areas, mostly defense and striker.
Another year, many new faces, but same old challenges.

Blanket statement warning here...
There appears to be potential for a good run this term. That said, like Garry has mentioned before, there is also the volatility that could lead to relegation as well (although I doubt it). I am not drinking the Kool-Aid on promotion in 2010, but like we have all hinted earlier in this thread, none of the relegated clubs from 1.BL really strike you as world beaters. It could be interesting. As we all know though, the Rückrunde has been the thorn in the side.

Bierofka must undergo another operation and will be out another weeks. I do not have a good feeling.
As for our success potential, as with every year health and depth will be key. *IF* we can stay healthy I think we will do well. Problem is, we already start the season two GOOD men down in Biero and Schwarz. Those are to very key players seriously gone until winter.

I am officially a supporter of Sechzig and signed up for Loewen TV for the year. I am giddy about it, really.

I will, later on when I get home. It appears to work right now though.
I am assuming you can "save target as" and download the matches and whatnot for saving to an iPod for future watching....?
