Hmmm... Sabrina conversation starts here: http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=932627&highlight=sabrina&page=16
It's not the same Sabrina though. But that Sabrina girl from this contest sure looks like one of the girls from last season. I don't remember her name though.
Ahah, it was Sarah!

And I remembered you guys talking about a Sabrina, so my brain signals got crossed.
Also looks a bit like the Martina chick you guys were talking about. http://www.tsv1860.de/media/images/6_loewenfans/rasenhasen/14_osnabrueck/204_Martina_Portrait_204x18.jpg
Probably because all three of them look like Big Bird.
Anyway, back to the team. LB, I guess you would highly recommend subscribing to the teams video plan?

Oh yeah. Great plan. Like I said, you can watch just like you live in Muenchen. Get yourself a few weissbier and you would think you are there.

Well, considering that this year it might be easier to follow '60 than Newcastle I may be around here more.
That's the good thing about being a supporter in the states. You can follow your local team and it won't conflict, as far as scheduling, with European teams you like, except if you follow the northern leagues.

Well, it has happened.
1860 and Wolfsburg agreed to a deal which sees Fabian Johnson move to Wolfsburg. :(

I would love to be angry about this, but I cannot be. With Johnson's contract running out at the end of the coming season, 1860 almost had to sell now.
It would have been too much of a gamble to wait until mid-season to sell and I don't believe there was any way Johnson would extend.
However, I believe he joined the wrong club. Sure, he might see some playing time in the CL this season, but what about the future??
I really believe Wolfsburg is going to fall quickly without Magath.
Other midfield hopefuls like Baier and Dejagah have gone there only to stagnate or regress.
Wolfsburg is over-loaded in midfield already. What they should have been buying is a quality third-striker in case Dzeko or Grafite miss any significant amount of time.
I think this is a stupid move by Wolfsburg. Sure, Johnson has good potential. I personally don't think he's ready to be a regular player at the top level of the Bundesliga just yet, but he has that kind of potential.
The question in Wolfsburg is where are they going to play him??
I know 1860 did the deal for the same reason you can pick whatever kind of woman you want on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. Because they needed the money.
I can't understand why Wolfsburg did it. Spending the money now just to put Johnson on the bench is kind of silly.
That is, unless they feel he wouldn't have been there in six months. And with as loaded as their midfield currently is, I still would loan him out somewhere.
Maybe even back to Sechzig if they are interested.
I'm sorry. I just think this is a bad move for the kid.
I hope he and Wolfsburg prove me wrong.........

I have to agree. I am not sold on the move for either side, really. I know the idea is to capitalize when possible, but still... I am not sure Johnson will develop at Wolfsburg the way he could somewhere else.
Time will tell.

I'm only a bit of a Sechzig fan, but when I return to the USA, I'm almost certain I'm going to do it.

Oh, I'm "sold" on it for Sechzig for these reasons:
1) Johnson wasn't going to extend, meaning he could have signed with someone else for the 2010-2011 season on a free transfer on 1 January.
2) Apparently, 1860 wasn't going to get anymore offers better than Wolfsburg's.
3) Like I said in my original message, I know 1860 did the deal for the same reason you can pick whatever kind of woman you want on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. Because they needed the money.
At the risk of "tooting my own horn", I've said here over and over again that Johnson wasn't in as much demand as many 1860 supporters thought.
I know some 1860 supporters who really thought 1860 would get as much for Johnson as they did for Gebhardt.
One of them sent me an e-mail calling Stevic "a crazy, stupid, idiot" for making this deal.
I told him that his comments describe Stevic accurately to me too, but not for that reason. I think Stevic had to take what he could for Johnson.
It certainly isn't the first time an 1860 "talent" has been overrated by the 1860 fan base.
I know the idea is to capitalize when possible, but still... I am not sure Johnson will develop at Wolfsburg the way he could somewhere else.
I know I said before I thought Wolfsburg should loan him out, but after looking at their roster again, perhaps Fabian can be a part of the squad. They've got plenty of midfielders, but not many of them are very good out on the wing.
He will have a battle to crack their starting 11, but I think he does have a shot a playing there. Even if it is just off the bench and Cup matches.
Time will tell.
It always does. :D

Nope, but the commentary, especially with a home-slant, is always a welcome thing.

Well, judging by some of Garry's comments about the commentators since he's had it, "a home slant" is an understatement. LOL!!
But it is the same with BVB NetRadio.

I know... I just need to do it and be done with it.
But will Loewen TV offer me an inside look at the Stuberl mit ein Helles und Schinken Semmel? Just wondering. LOL

I would think so. You are supposed to get more than just the matches.
That's a question for Garry.

I am sad and yet happy at the same time. The kid is going places and we will be with other young talent. He will have a chance to realize a dream and THAT is something that everyone should have a chance to do. We will no doubt pick him back up in 10 years when he is 30 anyway.

I would have been VERY pissed at Stevic had he played poker and lost this kid's transfer. I applaud him for that. However, I STILL think he screwed the pooch by not signing him to an extension in the fall when his agent wanted to and he was still the diamond in the rough.
However, I believe he joined the wrong club. Sure, he might see some playing time in the CL this season, but what about the future??
I think he stays 2 years at Vfl and gets picked up by BVB, Schalke or Werder. Perhaps Hertha.
Other midfield hopefuls like Baier and Dejagah have gone there only to stagnate or regress.
Different cases I think. Fabian is a wing midfielder who can also play wing defense and attack. Baier was none of those. I think Fabian is far more pliable.
I think this is a stupid move by Wolfsburg. Sure, Johnson has good potential. I personally don't think he's ready to be a regular player at the top level of the Bundesliga just yet, but he has that kind of potential.
Regular player? No. Sub at a top club = yes. Regular player at Hannover or Eintracht or elsewhere? Absolutely.
I can't understand why Wolfsburg did it. Spending the money now just to put Johnson on the bench is kind of silly.
A club more stupid than 1860 at acquisitions? I cannot fathom that.

If you listen to GOL TV or any spanish channel in the States, sooner or later you learn to understand the commentary. Hell, most of my spanish is soccer related. :D Besides, there are many cognates between German and English so I doubt you will have a tough time following the game.

Actually, it is not as partisan as one would think. When the ref makes a bad call against Sechzge the moderator does not immediately villify him. In fact, more often than not, he tells it objectively. The FUN part is when something obvious happens and it goes against us, THEN he can really show his partisan spots. :D
I would think so. You are supposed to get more than just the matches. That's a question for Garry.
You get all press conferences, interviews and other stuff. All games and some DFB Pokal games. Like I said, for less than $1.50 a game it is a steal.

Thanks, Garry. I appreciate the insight. I will likely jump on board, in a few weeks.
Is there any way of knowing, in advance at all, which matchs you will get? Specifically referring to DFB Pokal, of course.

It is no doubt an opportunity he deserves. I just wonder if he would have served himself better by going where immediate success will not be expected.
I doubt he's going to find very much patience in Wolfsburg this season.
I would have been VERY pissed at Stevic had he played poker and lost this kid's transfer. I applaud him for that.
I don't think Stevic was ever going to gamble. I think he just hoped bigger bids would come in.
Which they obviously did not. However, I would not be surprised to find out Wolfsburg eventually raised theirs some.
I think Stevic wanted to try to save face by getting seven figures for the kid. There's been no confirmation, but I'm assuming they did that.
However, I STILL think he (Stevic) screwed the pooch by not signing him to an extension in the fall when his agent wanted to and he was still the diamond in the rough.
No argument there.

I can't say that. I'm not as certain as you seem to be that he'll continue to progress. I hope he does, but the list of guys who looked as if they were going to be superb in the future at 21 or younger but never get any better is long.
Really f#cking LONG..........
Different cases I think. Fabian is a wing midfielder who can also play wing defense and attack. Baier was none of those. I think Fabian is far more pliable.
Baier wasn't the only one I named. But I also said in a later message that after reviewing their roster again, none of the guys there are that good on the wing.
I don't know that Fabian is at 1. BL level doing that yet, but he'll have a chance to prove himself.
Regular player? No. Sub at a top club = yes. Regular player at Hannover or Eintracht or elsewhere? Absolutely.
BVB isn't a top club right now and if Johnson was with us, he'd be playing with BVB II in the 3. Liga this season.
Sven Bender might spend much of the season with them too unless we sell Tinga.
On Johnson, I think you have to look at what each club actually has on the roster before rattling off names of clubs he might start with.
I made that mistake in my first message in ASSUMING he would have a very hard time cracking the Wolfsburg 1st Bundesliga roster.
I think you also need to consider that there's a reason 1860 didn't get any better offers.
It's not like Wolfsburg made an offer no one else could top for Johnson. Just last week, they weren't even offering seven figures and they still had zero competition for the kid.
There are reasons for that. I'm not the only one who isn't fully confident his future is as bright as you seem to believe it is.
Trust me, I hope you are right, but I have serious doubts.
A club more stupid than 1860 at acquisitions? I cannot fathom that.
BVB is close. But I'd even take dumbass Zorc over Stevic.
Of course, I'd take Reuter over both........

No on the Pokal games. You get very few of those due to other copyright laws, but I think the same groups owns both BL and Pokal now so maybe that will change.
BL you get all games. From pre-kick to final whistle.
