Yeah, but I didn't refer to anything the FO said, did I?

I gave my opinion and asked you how you think I somehow got "carried away."

Yeah, your comment ticked me off a bit, but I also don't need to be told to "simmer down" either.

Maybe we all aren't on the same page as to how well they will do.

I don't agree with the FO, but I also believe they just might not wind up being as bad and Garry and I both made it out to be after the first few transfers in and out.

Add to that the less than predictable nature of the 2nd Bundesliga, and one never knows what can happen.

This team has the potential for promotion or to be in the relegation battle.

I think how well or how badly they do will be determined by how much Lienen can get them to buy into his system and philosophies.

In my opinion, none of the three teams falling back from the 1st Bundesliga looks to be a "lock" for one of the two automatic promotion spots.

I am not saying Sechzig is going to sneak in there, but what I am saying is I believe the 2nd Bundesliga is going to be a wide-open race this season.........

I agree with you, but my biggest concern is if Lienen ends up getting canned by the idiots in charge when they go through the rough patch that every team goes through.

Let the team play and see what happens...

That I ABSOLUTELY agree with. If any one club, even one that has not been up for some time, gets hot at the right moment, they could make a run to get moved up.

Another 1860 loan deal, this time they bring in Bjorn Bussman as a young keeper. He was at FC Koln and last season was at Blackburn Rovers playing with their reserve team.

Thanks for looking out for everyone there.

Nothing against your reporting it, but that deal was reportedly wrapped up over a month ago.

We reported that on the last thread.

Or did I miss something? :o

Sure. I don't think anyone is going to pull a "wire-to-wire" like Freiburg nearly did this past season or Gladbach did pull the season before.

And while Sechzig is highly unlikely to fulfill management's promotion promises, it isn't out of the realm of possibility in this 2nd Bundesliga.

I did not recall that this was discussed before. Apologies.

The story is being reported widely today (including SkySports) so if nothing else it confirms something previously rumored (which is a good thing because surprisingly not all rumors come true!).

**WARNING: Heavy sarcasm in use....enter at your own risk**

Against Man City's scrubs.....

Hey, you take what you can get. Lienen seems to be somewhat pleased, although admittedly the club has work to do...
To be fair, 1860 played THEIR scrubs in the second half too. Given that ManCity have ten times the payroll 1860 does, I think you have to look at 1-1 as being pretty damn respectable for a summer kick about.

Garry and I had been talking possible relegation before.

Simmer down, Keith.:p:D

And just to be the first to say it this season, I STILL AM thinking relegation is a possibility.

I don't agree with the FO, but I also believe they just might not wind up being as bad and Garry and I both made it out to be after the first few transfers in and out.
I have to agree. I truly want to think Stevic has been an oaf in his dealings, but I have been pleasantly surprised in the QUALITY of his dealings. Now, I STILL have SEVERE reservations on how our finances are being handled (or mis-handled as the case may be) AND one has to also STILL be concerned about the depth and LONG TERM look of the club; but for now, I have to say I like what I see in many respects. Not the total debacle I was expecting, and frankly, hoping for.

Add to that the less than predictable nature of the 2nd Bundesliga, and one never knows what can happen.
Cannot disagree here. Anything can happen.

Damn, Keith...agreeing with three straight quotes....new record for us.:D

4...and counting.

*IF* they are anywhere NEAR lower mid-table, they will punt him. Not that we can afford to pay Reuter, Kurz, Wolf AND Lienen AND a new coach. But given that the FO has said "promotion 2010" they had better be in the hunt all season or Lienen will ALWAYS feel the heat.

He's being brought in for the U23s. Since we let Krauss and Roessl go we have no U23 keepers with U23 experience. Siebold only had 2 games in the net, Krauss the rest. With Krauss and Roessl gone they needed a few TW. Eicher, the old U19 keeper, is decent and will likely see time. The kid is still 18 and they want to bring him on to get experience. Siebold, on the other hand, is 22 this year and only has this season to really prove himself or find another team. Bussman is 5 months younger than Eicher, so I really see these two as the ones to take over. I highly doubt Siebold will do much. He may get the starting U23 job if he earns it, but after that I would watch out b/c these two youngsters are very decent keepers.

1860 begins camp in St. Johann (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=St+Johann+in+Tirol,+Kitzbuhel,+Tyrol,+Austria&sll=47.45038,13.216553&sspn=1.898127,3.532104&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=FVkf1QIdFq29AA&split=0&ll=47.717154,12.538147&spn=0.990464,1.766052&t=h&z=9) today. Funny thing is they have several hotel rooms still to be occupied. Rumor is 3-4 "other" new players might show up.
Fabian Johnson will be there Wed as he was on EM duty for the U21 champions and has been given the chance to rest a bit after that. Rumors still fly about the 900K Wolfsburg has offered but word is that Stevic feels he can get 1.2m or more in January. A bit of poker on this deal since he can leave on a free in June. I guess Stevic thinks he can get at least this in January. Do not bet on Fabian spending the whole season in weiss/blau.
Nicolas Fauvergue (http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/spieler/27307/nicolas-fauvergue/profil.html) (Lille) seems to be a target of Stevic. Problem is that he will l likely cost us a transfer fee and it won't be cheap. Stoffers is thinking they could use DiSalvo as a way of reducing the transfer fee...assuming Lille would take him (which I would not hold my breath on). Don't hold your breath on this one either.
Had to laugh on Saturday. Was "watching" the game on the ManCity ticker when a couple of MC fans were commenting on how the players were likely to lose about a stone (14 pounds) because the "heat" was really high. Temp at game time on the field was a smoldering 81F:rolleyes: BTW, it will be 108F in Dallas today.

Ardijan Djokaj [fussballdaten (http://www.fussballdaten.de/spieler/djokajardijan/)] [transfermarkt (http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/spieler/34404/ardijan-djokaj/profil.html)] is in camp. He was formerly with Koblenz but was let go. Not sure why we are looking at a 30 year-old let go from Koblenz, but I guess beggars and choosers....
Florin Lovin [fussballdaten (http://www.fussballdaten.de/spieler/lovinflorin/)] [transfermarkt (http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/spieler/26497/florin-lovin/profil.html)]. Also in camp. Makes more sense as he could be a fill in for Sven at defensive midfield.
Kushtrim Lushtaku is also in camp. I wish I could post something about him but neither fussballdaten nor transkermarkt have anything on him. But guess what? He comes from....wait for it.....THE BALKINS!!!!! What a surprise!!!!
VERY bad news: Benny Schwarz, after a VERY long break for rehab on his knee all last spring, STILL cannot train fully. I fear this kid's career may be over. He was such a bright talent and has yet to play any since the injury. If you recall he was injured in a very bad tackle from behind in November which the referee did not even card and the kis was stretchered off. I hope I am wrong but I feel his career is over. At very least, it looks unlikly he will reach is former form anytime soon.

Great name; not as good as if he was Irish/Scottish (Florin McLovin) but still good:).

AZ took a stab at putting together Lienen's probable line up. Take a look (http://www.tz-online.de/sport/fussball/tsv-1860/tz-fotostrecke-lienen-traumelf-400929.html;jsessionid=D4BC662FDA5EB6D305DACCE22B49C448).

Here is the line-up, guys in bold were part of last year's stammelf:
Kiraly

Rukavina - Felhi - Ghvinianidze - Holebas

Pappas - Bender - Ignjovski - Ludwig

Roesler - Lauth
Comments:

I like the back line but think we made a HUGE mistake not keeping Schick and having to plug Holebas in that space. Beda will no doubt be used some where in defense instead of in midfield where he belongs. With Benny S. and having not kept ANY of our wing back talent, we now have a HUGE hole in our defensive flanks. Pray that people stay healthy.
The midfield assumes Fabian Johnson is gone, of course. I think you will see Pappas up front with Lauth if Fabian stays. Aigner has got to be pissed. I think he played great but looks to be a back-up now with some of Lienen's Greek boys on the team.
Striking still seems to be out problem. Roesler???? Holy Crap the man is lazy even for a striker. He has no pace, no speed. He cannot play striker.
For all the moves being made I go backto my comment on depth. We need WAY more depth in the midfield and defense. If Benny S. is done and Biero is still injured, we have two HUGE roster spots to fill.
