Pretty poor performance here in a number of big spots by the referee team. Firstly, in the first half to a Mexican player grabs a Salvadorean player who retaliates by slapping/pushing him with his left arm back. The Mexican answers the action by striking the opponent causing him to bleed from right above his eye or on the eyebrow. No sanctions to either player.

In the second half the referee makes a phantom call that results in a Mexican goal from a penalty. There appeared to be incidental contact when the Mexican attacker and the El Salvadorean player made contact at the top of the penalty area. Both players went down and a penalty was awarded. A very harsh call to say the least.

Later Mexico make a cross about 30 yards from goal. The player receiving the ball, looks onside, later there is another cross at the top of the box to Blanco who also looked to be on side. This nullifies a Mexican goal. You cannot see the AR to see when he flags for offside and I do not recall where the restart takes place at the top of the box or 40 yards from goal.

85 minute of play a Salvadorean player makes a cross that accidentally strikes the hand of the Mexican player from 2 yards out. It did not look deliberate to me. El Salvador wins 2-1.

Ramos Rizo agrees. I don't have time to translate, but he touches on the points raised in my post and agrees that the referee Walter Quesada from Honduras was lamentable.

Correction, Quesada is Costa Rican.
