i certainly hope so. Big deal i took away from the game that BB went to Demerit instead of OTC. I wasnt nervous as hell once he stepped in there and he gave a good account of himself during those last 20 vital minutes. To me Demerit is a marked improvement over Califf and if Demerit has indeed done this it is great for the security of our centerback position

Demerit is well ahead in my view.
Demerit looked very solid with the time he was given.

People talk about all of Bob's failings. Letting OTC have a US jersey is by far his biggest sin.

There's been some good analysis on Califf in the past. He's a good 5th defender to bring in to ice a win or draw when needed. He's not a steady starting CB, and not the guy you bring in when you need composure. He's the guy that runs around like a fireman breaking up a play, save your butt and boot it long. Basically the antithesis of Parkhurst.

Never mind #3, he may be starting. Bocanegra said his hamstring injury is mild and should take a week and a half or so. Isn't the Italy game in 10 days?

I was very impressed. Very tough spot to come in at and he was solid.

And I do believe his tattoos out-tattoo OTC.

if he can continue that form, he should start at CB, and Boca should move to LB.
No knock on Boca at all, but he would provide veteran stability to that position (where he plays for his club team), and I don't think we lose a whole lot between DeMerit and Boca.

I agree. DeMerit was solid.
Of course, I am not too concerned with Left Back right now. Bornstein played a rather solid game.

I thought Bornstein was good as well. I've never been down on him the way some on BS have been. IIRC, he played out of his skin in the Mex friendly down in Houston (the one where Dirty Sanchez went after EJ)

I want everybody to go back and watch the second half of our friendly in 2008 against Argentina. What was the backline that limited that vaunted Argentina attack to no shots on goal...........it was Califf and DeMerit.

Califf is atrocious. I think Jimmy Conrad should be #4 but I guess he's older and for some reason Bob doesn't like him.

Did he pass him based on 20 minutes of play? Are you high?
No, coming in in the 71st minute and performing well is not reason, in and of itself, for Demerit to pass Califf on the depth chart.

:rolleyes:Maybe true. Califf sucking hard may be a reason.

Only seen 20 minutes of him..we'd have to see more of him to make assumptions.

DeMerit played a very good game and is in the mix for the 3rd CB
I really wonder why Orozco hasn't been given a chance at CB (which is his natural position). I have seen him play for San Luis and I have liked what I have seen.

As a Watford fan and probably the biggest Jay DeMerit fan to post in this thread thus far (:o), I actually think Jay was a bit shaky on Saturday. Make no mistake, it's tough to be thrust into a high-intensity game in the last twenty minutes, replacing the team's captain in central defense, but DeMerit got caught on Costly's shot right after coming in, and he also had a couple shaky clearances. Jay did settle in though and looked better in the last 5 minutes plus stoppage time.
All that said, I absolutely do think that DeMerit deserves to be our #3 guy ahead of Danny Califf.

Ah, but being picked to go in when Califf was also on the bench is a sign that Demerit may have already passed Califf.
