View Full Version : Do we win to spite the visiting fans or in spite of them?

Does the US team play good at home just to 'prove something' to all the fans of Hondurus/Mexico...or would the US play even better if it was 90-10 USA support in most matches?
I think they have taken it on as kind of badge of honor to go out there in a not so friendly home environment and still bring the results home.
No other country in the world has to do that. Its a credit to them.

Oh really, Turkey gets about 80% crowd support in Germany? Is this for friendlies or WCQ?

No, but they do get a significant portion of the crowd, near half, iirc.

there's lots of turks in germany. remember that galatasaray had a huge support in berlin during their uefa cup run earlier this year. if anyone watched the france vs turkey friendly yesterday, it really seemed like the majority of the crowd were turks. france was also greatly outnumbered at home for the france vs scotland european cup qualifier in paris. (these fans did actually travel however)
save the big stadiums for the money making friendlies. we have soccer stadiums now, so we should use them.

France had their own national anthem booed against I think Algeria. In France. This stuff does happen to countries with large immigrant populations.

Just got back from the game. I'm sorry, but no chance in hell it was 80% Honduras fans. More like 50/50.

According to this recap it appeared to be '4 to 1'?
http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news;_ylt=Atg.UrCLz2XUrcZWf6VEQEImw7YF?slug=txwcuphondurasus&prov=st&type=lgns
A crowd of 55,647 attended the first-ever qualifier at Soldier Field, site of the 1994 World Cup opener. While the game was played on American soil, the dominant support was for Honduras, a Central American nation of about 7.6 million, Fans in blue and white appeared to outnumber red-clad American supporters by a 4-to-1 margin.

The recap is idiotic. Honduras fans were in blue and white, period. USA fans were wearing whatever. The section I was in was full ofusa fans going crazy wearing black, blue, white, red, whatever. Pretty much look at the crowd, and if they don't look like honduras fans count them as USA fans. Anyways, the 25K+ staying around after the game was over cheering proves it was not close to 4 to 1. Not a chance.

On TV, it looked 80-20 (and that's being generous to the U.S. fans).
It was a sea of blue and white, save for a very small section of red.
You could see the look on the players' faces when they walked out of the tunnel. They seemed to be thinking the same thing I was - what idiot decided to put this game here?

Once again, that's totally bogus. Sure, the Hunduras fans totally outnumbered sam's army. So what? Basically, there's no coordination with usa fans, almost none of them are wearing red (except sam's army) If they were all wearing one color they would make a much bigger impact. I'm sure we'll hear about how lopsided the crowd was but don't believe the hype. Anyways, that's all the more ill say on this subject...

The fans of CONCACAF teams get one or two chances a year to see their Nat teams and very little if any opportunity on TV unless they're playing the US or Mexico, so they will fork over a weeks pay and travel 500 miles to a game, any game with their nats.
If every US fan within 500 miles showed up in Chicago, the Hondurans wouldn't have been able to get tickets.

with all the tickets we sold to Hondurans, do we have enough to buy a good coach yet?

MLSnet's article (http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20090606&content_id=5183720&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp) says it was 10-to-1.
Honduras did not give up. Playing before a crowd that was perhaps 10-1 in favor of the visitors, the Hondurans had a great scoring chance in the 80th minute...
I'm sorry, there is just no effing way that's true. Less than 6,000 USA fans for a WCQ in Chicago? Who the hell writes this shit?
Oh, here it is: Kent McDill. Who is this jackass? He's the guy that wrote that classic book, "Bill Wennington's Tales from the Bulls Hardwood." I'm serious. (http://www.infibeam.com/Books/info/Bill-Wennington/Bill-Wennington-s-Tales-from-the-Bulls/1582617929.html)

Damn yal are some insecure fans. We were CLEARLY outnumbered. 4 to 1 sounds about right, sadly our fans (most of them) don't wear one color or cheer for anything but a goal so it looks/sounds worse than it really is. We all wish we had the kind of support these teams have and you know it.
