Girls High School State Semi-Finals. 2 stadium fields set up end to end with a walkway between, ( no bleachers on the adjacent end). Both fields have sound systems. Staggard start times. My game begins the 2nd half as the pre-game introductions are taking place on the other field. Then they play the National Anthem. I wait for a stoppage, (throw in in this case) whistle and signal for time out and stand quietly next to the thower. Once their anthem is over, we restart with the throw. No issues from anyone, but did get a couple of positive way top go ref!

Funny....the thought of doing that would never have crossed my mind. Good for you though!

Kudos to you, but probably not not necessary (and certainly not required). I am a band director and generally the expectation is that respect is shown towards the anthem and flag for the event it is being presented for (in this case the other game) and not just for the playing of it. In other words, if I'm rehearsing my band on the nathional anthem - I do not expect people watching the rehearsal or walking outside of the rehearsal hall to stop and give respect. Just my .02 worth.

Thanks, asler. I agree, certainly not necessry, but I thought, respectful. I didn't want our game to interfere with their anthem. If we had an errant shot go to their field, a hard whistle or a goal, the result would have been quite invasive to their anthem. I felt the 3 minutes to delay served notice of the respect that I want for the National Anthem ... especially on a day (before) June 6. I didn't face the flag, cover my heart, salute or anything. Just allowed them their Anthem.

Not a critical issue, but something different that I thought may be of some interest amongst we officials.
