anyone no where you can get lists of what numbers players wore?

No. But name the players and i will tell you as long as they played in England.

alec jackson, alec cheyne, best, charlton, moore, law, jimmy greaves, zola, peter bonetti, ron harris, peter osgood, gordon durrie, kerry dixon, bobby tambling.
best is on there only because ive heard he wore more than one number, and im not sure. same for zola.

So Greaves wore mostly 8 for England. I'm fairly sure he wore mostly 10 for Spurs, but also wore 8 sometimes

Just search some photos of the players (google) and look at the numbers they wore. ;)

You have to separate modern players and non-modern players when you're talking about jersey numbers. It wasn't too long ago that the starters would be assigned numbers between 1 and 11 based on their position in the lineup, and the subs would get 12 and 14 - although a star player would generally have a preferred number.
Even now, most European and South American national teams follow this convention for friendlies and WC qualifiers, starters wearing 1-11 regardless of their preference.
