US coaches err on trying to make their players conform to their style of play instead of using the best players at their optimal positions.
Choices like Pearce/Bornstein at LB are odd. They are bad defenders, the only reason Bob plays them is because they offer some offense.
We're so close to the Confed Cup now...remember, we've got to play against some pub teams called Brazil and Italy soon. We've got to start shoring up the defense; the attacking-minded LB experiment has failed. Let's just concentrate at finding a defensively solid back 4.
Bocanegra already plays LB for his club team and is a solid defender. And then you've got Spector who's a regular on a Premiership team (when he's healthy at least) who could play LB,CB,or RB. Since we've already got LB covered, how bout seeing if we could use him in Boca's current position? I know some of you must be thinking he's still suffering from injury, but according to a 1st-hand source who frequents the boards, he's been perfectly healthy. And If I remember correctly, I did see him play in the waning weeks of the Premiership season.
And on a final note, why are we afraid to try creative attacking players like Adu, Torres, and Feilhaber? Yet we put up with Dempsey's inconsistent touch and lazy demeanor...for what, his flair?
Our attackers have great athleticism and speed, yet it goes to waste simply because the buildup is so disjointed. There is no offensive orchestrator on the team.
When our players have the ball on the offensive third, they have that dumb look like "Oh I guess I have to get by the defense...nah, I'll just pass it back..." There's no one there that they rely on to playmake. Please, can we try to look like we aren't afraid to take chances?
