Top end speed guys often look like they're not trying as hard. There were quite a few times where Wynne raced back to cover. Not a once did I see HIM dogging it.
Cherundolo is gone for a while. Hopefully Hedjuk is fit. Spector, while I love him, is toasted, often by speed on the wings in the EPL. I'll take Wynne out there.
I agree. I think Spector should be our CB because he doesn't have the speed to contain quick wingers.

Wynne has made some progress. Technically, he won't improve much, and that to me is his biggest limiting factor. Tactically, he's improved, but as we saw against Costa Rica he still has a way to go. However, I think he stands a better chance of improving in this area. I suspect we'll see him pop in and out of the USMNT camps until the coaches are convinced he's finally reached a reasonable tactical level on a consistent basis. One thing Wynne has (besides speed & athleticism) is a good competitive mindset. If he seems lost at times it's because of his work-in-progress tactical understanding, but never because any opposing player scares him. I watched him closely when he was with the U20s, and what was clear then was his desire to compete. This is hard-wired in him, and will help him get through difficult patches. Like everyone else, I can't predict how far he'll progress, but he's certainly someone who should not be dismissed after one game.

Wynne didn't have a good game but he also had very little cover and that left him on island against Costa Rica. Don't discount him, but yes, he did not perform well on Wednesday night.

If it wasn't for that 4-3-3 formation wynne wouldn't been caught out of position. with 3 midfielders losing the ball there was enough open space for the counter. every counter CR had atleast 5 players pushing forward with only 4, sometimes 3 defenders. Wynne was never in a positions to succeed so It wouldn't be fair to jude him IMO.
Agreed. Not even that, but out of the three CMs, Torres kind of drifted to the left while Mastroeni and Bradley stayed put centrally leaving Wynne exposed and with basically no cover. He didn't well on places where he should have but you can't blame him entirely for the bad performance.

I have bitched about Frankie a lot over the years but one thing for sure, he would have brought something to Saprissa that no one else did. Effort.
Hey dude doesn't know the meaning of quit. Bald Bob should have Lannycakes bunk with him on the road. It might rub off.

I don't know of any Ashley Youngs or Ronaldos in CONCACAF.
Spector will likely never be anymore than a squad player for West Hamm but he is better than Boca, Wynn & Beas on the back line. That probably sums up the problems with this version of the Nats, too many squad players and not enough talent.

He was excellent in the Olympic competition. I think it is fair to say that the team let him down vs. CR. BB should step up and take a lot of the blame in this match. For the first time, I would say he was unprofessional in his approach to the job.
I would love to see Steve Coppel (SIC) formerly of Reading be brought in to perhaps consult with BB. For two seasons they had a very compelling style of play and were let down by a series of crippling injuries and not the best personnel decisions.

That all time great Steven Pienaar toasted Jonathan mercilessly for 90 minutes just weeks ago. Any number of CONCACAF wingers will do for Pienaar, including Carlos Edwards who I'll take all day every day.

There is no ronaldo but there is Guardado, Alvarez, and Ruiz who IMO are all better than ashley young. All of them would easily burn Spector.

Well they might beat Spector. Time will tell. Better than Ashley Young? I do my best to be polite. Let me simply say that you apparently have never seen Young. Short of fancy pants, he was the pick of the litter among wingers in the EPl this year. I saw every team at least twice this season and while he has some competition, I'd take him above all others.
