What exactly does it explain? The coordinator position rotates each year among the commissioners of the 6 member leagues.
I didn't realize that. My apologies.

The new fifth BCS game, starting for the 2006 season, will be the National Championship Game and will be held at the site (on a rotating basis) at one of the four other BCS games a week after the other BCS games are played.
But it chaps my ass a little bit that we have to wait for the BCS to be expanded in order to get in. There is no doubt in my mind that Texas is one of the five best teams in the nation. None whatsoever. They play one of the toughest schedules in the nation, due largely to being in the Big XII South, and they went 10-1 against that schedule. They played four BCS-ranked teams this season and went 3-1 against them, losing only to the #2 team in the nation.
I'm not bitter at Cal, because they're a good team that plays tough teams in a good conference and they lost only to the #1 team in the nation. I'm bitter because Texas will be passed over for two teams from crap conferences that didn't beat anybody this year.
And it pisses me off that people sniff that Texas doesn't belong in the BCS because they can't beat a team that has permanent residence in the top three. At least we play them. Who the hell has Utah or Pitt played?
Auburn has gotten a lot of crap about the quality of their non-conference schedule (or the lack thereof). Honestly, given that teams are punished for losing, even to quality opponents, I can't blame them for scheduling Louisiana-Monroe, The Citadel, and Louisiana Tech. After all, if you gotta play a tough SEC schedule, why make your path to a big payday that much tougher by scheduling tough non-conference opponents.
Meanwhile, Utah bitches that no one from a BCS conference wants to play them. Well, Utes, you just proved why no one from a BCS conference wants to play you -- there's no reward for it. You've proven that it's more rewarding to run the table against a bunch of creampuffs than possibly lose to a good team.
You make good points....especially regarding non-conference scheduling. UGA plays Boise State for their first game of the season next year and I'm already terrified. Everything to lose....not much to gain for us.

ND has never fired a coach mid-contract, and they're not about to start now.
Oops. Ty has been fired (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1935138) according to espn.com.

I can't wait to watch PTI today. Mr. Tony has been repeating the "ND never fires a coach in the middle of his first contract" mantra for months now, while Wilbon's been saying that he could see Willingham's being fired.
Congratulations, Notre Dame. You're now just another football program.

Saw the repeat of PTI on ESPNews yesterday. Didn't figure that Ty would be gone.

MAC Championship Game on right now.
Miami (OH) vs. Toledo.
Miami has done a hell of a job this season after losing Roethlisberger to the NFL.
He's to my alma mater laying the smack on Toldeo.

We have the big 3 championship games this weekend.
Big 12 Championship: Oklahoma v. Colorado
Pundits are starting to say, "This may be closer than we think people! Colorado could give Oklahoma a run for their money..." which is just a real good way of covering yourself so you look like a genius if Colorado wins, but still hold onto the idea that Oklahoma should win. In my opinion, this is a blowout game. I'll put up that Oklahoma put up nearly 600 yards of offense.
ACC Championship: Miami v. Virginia Tech
Don't know much about either team, but I hail from Virginia, so I'll put my money on the Hokies. Should be a friggin nice game to wake up to, that's for sure.
SEC Championship: Auburn v. Tennessee
Auburn obviously the favorite, but I think Tennessee has serious upset potential. I'll go so far as to say they'll keep it close into the 4th quarter, but Auburn pulls out by a touchdown and change. As for the ramifications... if Auburn DOES win big, and by big I mean a 4 touchdown spread... it really gives them credit for deserving a national championship spot. Any team who can run through ranked teams like Auburn has deserves notice... and not a bowl game against Utah, VTech, or heaven forbid Pittsburgh.

Considering the injuries Tennessee is having to deal with, it should be a track meet with Auburn winning by a mile. Tennessee has had to come back against KENTUCKY....as in the suck at football Kentucky Wildcats, and they also barely squeaked out wins again Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. If Auburn doesn't completely destroy them like they did earlier, then they've shot themselves in the foot somehow, because Tennessee doesn't have what it takes to win this game. Auburn only had trouble with two teams all year, LSU, the defending national champion and Alabama, their archrival and the #2 defense in the country.

Kevin White, the AD at Notre Dame, is an idiot. I am not saying Willingham did not deserve the sack or anything, but he has now botched two hires in his reign at Notre Dame. The whole George O'Leary one and now this. Rumours on the net and on ESPN radio suggested that in meetings yesterday Urban Meyer asked Notre Dame officials how they were gonna change in terms of academic standards, etc and they were not willing to change at all. The Notre Dame brass are so hypocritical. They want winners every season, but are not willing to do bend a bit like other schools to let more athletes in. It is not a black/white thing. There is a reason Northwestern and Stanford only make bowl games once in a while. Notre Dame is on the same path. If they want to sacrifice letting certain athletes into the school, they cannot expect coaches to perform miracles. White in my opinion should get the sack!

As a fan of an SEC team, I'd be willing to contribute $25 to ND to beef up their offer. I'm sure there are millions like me out there :D

I'd just like to post a quick reminder here about the Army-Navy game at 2:30. It's easy to lose track of it in the hoopla of all the conference championship games, but for my dollar it's still the greatest spectacle in college football.
Also, one of my good friends in high school was Kyle Eckel, the Navy FB who went for almost 1400 yards last season. (Because of injury, he's only at 900ish this year but still averaging 5 yards a touch.)
Besides, the W is going to be there, and if HE could cram it into his busy schedule . . .
GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY!

My dad served in both the army and the navy, and even he doesn't care.
That being said, they do have some neat traditions surrounding the game.

FIVE undefeated teams in Division I-A football & only ONE national championship game??
I'm actually VERY HAPPY about this because it SHOULD make the university presidents FINALLY admit what EVERYBODY knows...that the BCS system is a COMPLETE JOKE, FAILURE & DISGRACE!!!
TWO YEARS IN A ROW, with no TRUE national champion!! As a huge fan of NCAA football, I find it disgraceful that it's the ONLY sport that doesn't name it's champion ON the field!! Last year, it was LSU that got screwed and now it's Auburn, Utah & Boise St. who are screwed!!
How much more BCS crap must we take??! We NEED a playoff system, starting in 2005!! And not that it makes a whole lot of difference but, until I see a playoff system I WILL NOT watch ANY college football games, outside of MY team, Michigan!!
GO TO HELL, BCS!!!!!!

Except it did exactly what it was designed to do, it used a predetermined formula to select two teams for the championship game when it isn't obvious which two teams should be chosen.

Yeah, LSU has a nice, shiny, crystal football to commemorate how much it was screwed.

I've been follwong the 1-AA playoffs on TV and Div II and III playoffs on the web and it's just so much better. One winner per game, on the field, on the way to the championship game.
Too many excuses being made in I-A for not having an on the field playoff system.

Ah, look. NoCal and SoCal come together on one topic every year around this time. Somehow, some way, the Pac-10 gets the business end of NCAA's John Holmes-o-matic. Damn, Cal... they ********ed you so hard, you probably heard banjos first. Did the BCS even buy you dinner first? A movie? Anything.
BTW, this is so not schadenfreude. Myself and every other Trojan fan I know was hoping (somehow) OK and Auburn would lose, so we could get another crack at playing you guys. That, and it would have been nice to hear "OK, sure the Pac-10 sucks, but by some fluke they have the two best teams in the nation this year".
Well, you went 11-1, your only loss was a 1st and goal at the 9 against the #1 team in the land, and get a free trip to San Diego for your efforts.
Heartfelt condolences from SoCal. We'll go kick the ******** out of OU, you do the same against Turnpike Tech, or whomever they're "matching" you up with

Yes, Cal got screwed. Still funny, except for I feel a bit for Cal's seniors and their athletic department, which just got hosed out of about $12 million.
