Now that the teams are taking shape andmost if not all are/have commited/commiting to a system analysis can begin.
Team A: I'm surprised they've gone for a flat 4 midfield! Unless Matthews is going to play as a WF in which case it'll be a 4-3-3. I like the tadem of Didi, Pele and Eusebio thru the middle, that'll be a nightmare combination for all teams to contain. I can see why Matthews has been employed as he will certainly have space to play in considering the attention that'll have to be afforded to Pele. What concerns me about the midfield is defence and actually winning the ball back. Matthews is a penertrative player and will be doing most of his work at the byline or in line with the corner of the penalty area this leaves an absolute acre of space in behind him if the ball is lost. Now if RC is the opposing LB the ball could forseeably be at team A's penatly area in 11 or so seconds of a sprint! I have an idea of the perfect RB for the team to back Matthews I wonder if they'll pick him.
Moore for all his precision and sublime tackling skill is going to need some pace around him so he can actually track forwards and do his stuff. I'm pretty sure team A will have to add a LW for width or have an unbalanced and side dependant midfield, if they use a LB for that duty they risk exposing Moore. Of the utter top tier of LW's I can think of there is not much defensive duty amongst them..that's going to make Didi and his partners job very hard.
Obviously I can't bring Rijkaard into the equation yet because you could play him in the midfield or alongside Moore. Right now I think this team is devestating in attack with the potential to pin teams back, but very vunerable to the counter and with the potentil to be strecthed thru midfield by the right combination of players. The defence they finally assemble should be interesting.
Team B: Two big shocks from them so far. Deschamps, when others were available and going for a double #9 system. I'm sure incisive midfield precision passer will be the order of the day to feed those goal hungry #9's with the crosses/flights coming in from the Wingbacks. The play is going to have to be built up via the midfield because those two upfront aren't looking to split defences with incisive passing between themselves. Maybe that gives other teams the chance to conentrate more on their jobs.. opposed to say a Pele - Eusebio combination...maybe?
The defence looks aggresive and persistant and Brietner is a fantastic lateral to have as he'll run and supply all day and be a goal - threat, If you get a RB with the same prowess as Breitner your system is going to be very effective with supply line and goal threats from numerous positions. I can't see you deviating from a diamond midfield due to a lack of height between Maradona and Deschamps and also not wanting to stifle Maradona with defensive duties so your midfielders are going to need to be quite solid and technically sound. What I like about this team is that you're always a threat without even having to do anything. Your strikers can pull CB's all over the place and open channels for Maradona to run into.
I don't see a particular weakness except the over reliance on Maradona to produce when/if your strikers are not getting the ball. Certain teams wont feel threatened playing a very high defensive line against your forwards because on a straight run to goal they are likely to be stopped. The midfielders you take are going to be decisive. Maradona needs assistance!
Team C: Now! Team C, It's hard to know what they are up to. The only team that doesn't seem to have a CB! I doubt Fachetti is going to played away from the LB spot so I'm wondering what kind of defence they are looking for.. a containing one or an attacking/aggresive one? There attack is devestating. Garrincha, Platini, Ronaldo and DiStefano is a team designed to hurt the opposition. They have the most straight up match winners of any team so far, but aren't neccessarily out in front on points. I really like the 4 man tandem as each player offers something different. Platini'
s thru balls and opportunism, Garrincha's dribbling and ability to cut in field with his left foot. I'm sure they will take an equally skilful player for the left side of midfield to have four goal scoring threats from all four midfield positions. I'd wager he'll be an excellent crosser of the ball so that DiStefano is fully optimised. I like the fact each player has a precision finish also. It forces other defences into action. In certain aspects Team A and Team C have the same issues to address. Garrincha and Matthews are perhaps the most devestating RW/Wf's ever but they both leave you with the problem of backing them up. Garrincha will have no D.Santos behind him! and there is no equal for the right lateral spot so as with team A I want to see what you come up with.
With such a midfield I wouldn't be surprised if you create a solid backline who aren't neccessarily required to help out in attack. Your defence will define you!
Team D: I'm very happy with how our team is shaping up. It's quite obvious we have a diamond midfield but because of the laterals we have width will never be a problem. barring a miracle we will have the best defence of the draft, but our rhythm will be defined by our DM. It's an essential position for us and I really liked the selection of Boszik by team E. We have the most moverability between our midfield so far as Cruyff and Gullit can play anywhere and Zico is comfortable out on the right or in the hole. Our strikers will make or break us...
Team E: Team E have created a fascinating team which is probably the most flexible so far. I personally feel playing Beckenbauer alongsiide Boszik would be the killer move of the draft...If you can back them up with two awesome CB's. It's hard to even tell if they will go for a more penetrative #10 and put Zidane on the left or slot Zidane in the hole and let others run around him. R.Carlos presents a unique problem for all teams his stamina and speed is going to be a nightmare to contain, but will they play it so that he can be exploited in behind...I am most interested in seeing whom they pair Puskas with but I also want to see what they do with that midfield.
More later! :D

Far be it from me to talk smack. But after watching 'Pele Eterno' I am convinced more than ever that team 'A' kicks everybodys butt. First of all, sorry for digging this thread after almost 4 years (the main one is already closed), but it's simply amazing! Congratulation, guys...And thanks God I was advised for it... :) What a pity I got late 4 years... :(
BTW, the teams are really well balanced, although I think some names were missed (C. Alberto out, Cafu in, is just an example, but it's a matter of personal choice - group, in this case). And, not for the same reason of ASF, I believe team A is the strongest...
Another point: where are Team B's subs? What if Maradona gets injured?
